I hope this isn't too off topic for the off topic forum but I am trying to play Mechwarrior 4 Mercenaries on windows 7. I downloaded it and it is fully updated through Mektek. I have tried running it in compatability mode on multiple versions of windows and run as administrator but every time it opens a small black launch window and then closes instantaneously. I realize this is MW4 not MWO but I figured I'm not the only one in this pool of people to try this, any adivce on how to get it to run would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

Now, it's been a loooong old time since I installed from mektek, but I remember something about having to disable your anti-virus whilst downloading/installing.

Hope that helps, if not i'll try to raise my friend who recently installed on Win7

Best of luck.

No its not that, he's having the "Black Widow" problem.

I had that problem for a long time.

If you are using a joystick then the game wont launch properly (depending on the joystick) its something to do with compatibility. Unplug your stick and then launch the game, I'm afraid you're going to be stuck with Mouse and Keyboard.

Or you can right click the shortcut, go to properties and put /gosnojoystick at the end of the target path (with a space after whats already there then the command)

yep, this or if that doesn't work, type in /gosnovideo. that skips the intro that may cause issues with win 7.

You also need to a custom patch that isn't in the automatic patcher. It's called 0000c or such. If you don't apply to this to your directory then the campaign WILL freeze on 2 certain missions that will prevent you from finishing any campaign.

Additionally, leave the resolution to default. If you edit that, the game will revert back to the minimum settings. It'll also do that if you ever alt tab out of the game and come back.

I also had to do this too just to get the game to bootup on my 64bit vista. Before I added this command line to my game shortcut properties box the game wouldn't even boot up. I miss the intro in the process but I can simply watch that off Youtube.

Thanks for the quick responses everybody, I tried the /gosnovideo thing, but no such luck the game still won't start. Also Bluten, do you happen to know where I can find that extra patch. Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Again, thank you for the input.

I've played MW4 for since it first release. It has nothing to do with your joystick. If you unplug your stick before you run the game, your stick will not show up in at all. It will run in Windows 7 64 just fine. Just remember, MWO is far and away mush better then MW4

i would not say far and away better. over 100 mechs now, over 100 weps/components, maps out the ying yang, and every play atyle you can think of plus the big treat of hosting your own server.
even now, with just a tweak in what you may restrict on your own sever and its a whole new game.
i do not understand with this many players registered here, that there are not more small groups (3 too 8 players) that want to play in league matches against other teams. ewarriorleagues has several teams playing and we have a drop at least once a week.
