I saw a thread about an individual bounty system, and while i dont like that idea, i do like the idea of a team bounty.
If a Merc group or house unit has been on a hot streak, winning 3 matches in a row or something similar, they could be worth bonus c-bills to whoever wants them dead.
For example, if my Merc unit Wolfs Spiders decides we are going to play multiple matches on one planet, fighting against whichever house owns it at the time, and we are winning our matches, we would be worth bonus c-bills to pilots from the respective house.
Could be fun. If these bounties were listed to the house members as well, it could help create notority for certain groups that play together frequently, as well as attract other mechwarriors into trying to defeat them.

I'm down with that. An interesting element to consider.

Could work for the Merc units, for the house/faction ones it's pretty much uninteresting. Doesn't fit at all the background. You go where your military leadership sends you and that is that. Opposing mercs have a bounty on their head? Who gives a wet ****, not like a regular house unit is going to collect on that, they're killing them on orders alone, and screw the C-bills. And they certainly won't go out oftheir way just because some random Merc unit has a higher or lower bounty. Doesn't matter at all for house/faction, and that is not even touching the matter of immersion-breaking.
So yeah, agree it could somewhat work for Mercs, but... for them only.

All it ends up being is extra reward for defeating someone who is doing well. It could easily fit into the lore. The house is getting its *** kicked by the merc unit, and wants to send someone that can beat them. They arent "going out of their way", they are dealing with an immediate threat. They go on orders, and get paid a bit more. Hell, they could make it so house units get more loyalty points instead of c-bills.
Besides, its not like you wont be able to choose where you fight if you are in a house. The game isnt going to be picking your matches for you just for lore because you are enlisted in house forces. Players would hate that.

Actually I like the idea of this the other way around. A certain House Unit is defeating all comers, their opposition doesn't want to risk the damages to their own house units in a battle to take them down, so they set up a bounty and wait for Mercs to jump at the chance. Even if some Merc units fail, tactically it just wears down the opposition more and more and in the battletech universe Mercs are cheap compared to maintaining house units. I could totally see the Davion Marshal of the Draconis March putting out a bounty on a Kurita Sword of Light unit, or a Cappellan noble throwing out a bounty for a Davion Guards unit. Could be an interesting little dynamic to set up.

This too.
I think all id be looking for, is some basic system that gives incentives to be fighting someone specefic at that time, even if its just for a match or two.
