I was really hoping mwo would support this device day one but nothing annonced from the mwo devs have me
Concerned, they want immersion well it dosnt get any better then the rift.
Simple cockpit look around is what hawken is getting, mwo would be great with the same
Idea.

I wouldnt use it either but having support for something doesnt mean you need to use it. More options the better, but I think support for older tech like TrackIR would be more beneficial and a lot better on your eyes.

As I posted in the other thread, I personally wouldn't develop anything for it until they commit to a price range. If it turns out to be 600 bucks or more, you're gonna sell so few that committing developer resources to it will delay other in game elements from being produced by limited dev team members.

So yeah, Hawken sounds desperate. :)

They said that the prices wont differ alot from the current dev kits but quality will increase.

Well, the dev kit is $300. One can expect the hardware to be more affordable by the time it is retail-ready, but with markup, the general estimation is $300-400. It's unlikely that they're going to stray too far from that projected pricepoint.

Its still in prototype phase now... the guy who developed the technology is more of a scientist than an engineer - he didn't seem to know what to do with it. I think some other company is going to have to pick it up before it really goes into production. I'm betting at least a year before it hits the streets. But yeah.. would be awesome. But I'd settle for Track IR support first - that technology is tested and pretty awesome in its own right.

Hawken has recieved a massive amount of attention, it far surpasses MWO in terms of publicity, and MWO is a title built upon a franchise that stretches 10s of years, while Hawken is a brand new game. Trust me, Hawken is anything but desperate, and if the Oculus Rift isn't too pricey, i'll definitely be getting em, along with Hawken ofcourse B). The dev team of Hawken has also grown from 4 to an unnanounced amount of devs, so product support won't affect the actual game.

the oculus is VERY COOL and all but why does EVERY ****** post have to bring up that other game? drop it with the cheesy advertising and just push the oculus by its self!

I agree, I think they get perks from the other website for every time they name drop on another companies web page, its cheesy bad marketing.

As Battle Tech is a well established IP on the tabletop market (yet most have never heard of it), and MechWarrior is a well established IP on the computer market, it would be sensible to support it over a new IP, in an investor mindset, in most normal circumstances.

Yet it doesn't seem to be the case, as they went with the more anime inspired Hawken to invest in it would appear. Which makes you wonder what makes investor take a step back and ignore the MechWarrior franchise? Is it to much legal **** tied up to the IP, the IP conflict, the legacy of a "dead" game or that they won't risk another simulator instead a FPS game with robots?

It somewhat makes me wonder...

It's a "not so obvious" generic rambo shooter. That way a lot of rambo shooter players will try it out, since it doesn't look the same as X.

My opinion on oculus rift:

I am a gamer since the early days. My first personal computer was a schneider ZX81 and i started gaming when we used to steer simple pixels:). So i started pretty early:)
If i am not mistaken Oculus Rift will be released sometime next year. They already stated the enduserversion will have a higher resolution than the developers version. IF they manage to achieve a resolution that leaves no too strong bothering aliased borders i would go as far and predict that EACH and EVERY gamer of simlike games WILL be sitting in front of their gamingrigs with a pair of those goggles on. I didnt even try it but as a Track IR-user i am able to imagine how big this immersion will pull you into the game. If Oculus rift would go to the stock market i would invest my money in them. So every developer that did NOT order one of their developerkits made a big mistake he will regret.
I hope the devs of MWO ordered one and are just too busy to talk about it. And no, i am not one of their staff:)

I think you got 3 or 4 foreign forum points for mentioning their name many times in one post.

Oculus Rift is developed for Unreal Engine.

Even if devs wanted, they simply can't use it.
