Floating dollar signs that give you more cash to spend after the mission....ugh no thanks.

Besides the vast majority of Castles Brian are empty. Most were cleaned out by the Star League when they were prepping for Exodus or by the Houses. After a few hundred years and quiet a while in a scavenger economy I can see the allure of these but the reality is far less hopeful. Finding one of these with anything useful in it is like winning the lottery. It shouldn't be in every game or on every map.

Now if there was a level designed as a Castle Brian I'm all for that. Giant underground mech bunker with murder holes, mazes, and choke points sounds like fun.

I'd have to agree with MilitantMonk one this. If you are trying to stay true with the BT universe then finding a Castle Brian much less one with anything left in it would be like hitting the lottery. Just not gonna happen.

However having a map as Monk mentioned, a giant underground mech bunker (a Castle Brain) would be and great idea for a map in general. Having a rare once a week or even month event there with the chance of a reward would be something I would be interested in.

I am thinking that the best thing it could provide would be strip chassis. A chassis is always something different, rarely "better" or "worse" than any other of similar weight mechs. Or maybe just giving out like pulse lasers, which have the disadvantage of shorter range and higher heat compared to their normal bretheren. Many things in the BT universe are naturally balanced to a certain degree (that is not including clan weapons, of course). I don't see why some star league tech wouldn't cause a huge stir if it was distributed. Also, the year is 3048, not 3025. A lot of that star league tech was becoming available around this time, such as the IS ER PPC, Medium Pulse lasers, heck even the gauss rifle was re-introduced in 3040. From the sounds of it, we are getting our timelines wrong, I think that star league tech would not upset the balance much at all.

i love the core idea
however it would need to be very very very very very rare
merc units that find a star league cache becomes very powerful and very famous
i would like to see this in reality too, in the world of PREclans a merc house with a hand full of ER medium lasers and some starleague mechs
would become very powerful indeed
they could even be given a choice depending on how good the find was
they could sell the new mech to the public (placing it on the market as normal) or hold it for their own ect or provide the plans to a single house to tip their advantage

i also think they should be of varied value too, one might just have a few weapons and modules that get shared to the team
some might have a mech or many mechs or even a mech factory

who knows

but finding them should be super hard AND on any given map should not just show up, the caches should require scouting first
and i mean proper scouting with advanced scout modules, not just blunder about and find one
i would think only one cache should be found every 2+ months
it should also make headline news on the MWO site and ingame news ticker when one is found
(imagine if it was you and your corp/unit's name up in lights on the front page)

but i cannot stress how hard to find they would need to be
the meta/competitive game would be utterly broken/unplayable until you found one (depending how good they are)

was reading last night on Wolfs Dragoons, as I remember it - - Didn't they use Castle Brian's they knew were hidden as they returned to inner Sphere to stock there Mechs?

I know its in one of my books, I can't seem to find it in writing though . . .

If I remember correctly they had maps of where a lot of the caches were and they also stockpiled an entire planet out in unknown space with both warships and equipment. It was their "for a rainy day or when we decide to help the IS" fund.

That's what I was thinking, so Long before 3048/9 era - Castles were being utilized by the Dragoons, because they knew where the castles were

Another find during last night read; Comstar had access to many of these as well....

I'm willing to bet that we'll have at least 1 battle zone based IN a Brian Castle, or maybe just outside.

I don't think we'll be running around looking for them.

Actually Castle Brian loots are nothing too OP once past invasion era unless the loot is extremely rare system like LAMS, Chameleon Light Polarization Shield, Null Signature systems (Exterminator/Spector) etc

You might get an Atlas II if lucky (which you should not) or an SL era THG-11E Thug , which is basically the Thug with CASE and DHS.

Yeah the 11E is a nice mech - I'd love to see what FD would do with that ;)

Now there's something I haven't heard someone talk about in years. A true BT'er.

As cool as it would be to have one, this tech needs to stay out of the game. Just my opinion.
