Bleh, I really didn't care for the Phoenix redesigns of them. The Ostsol I think it was was "okay."

I think the Stalker needs an update something fierce. Personal massager that walks with a swayed back pimp step is no bueno.

When Battletech was released in Japan they had the design of the mechs redrawn for the Japanese audience

http://www.gearsonli...ttletech/mecha/

While I am generally not a fan of making mechs too 'anime' style I have to say I way prefer the looks of the Ost series of mechs from Japan then the fugly lumps that we got stuck with in TRO3025.

Banshee is a very underated gamechanger of a 'Mech. Good sniper, fast for an assault, heavily armored, and its a GOD at physical combat. The charge alone is one of the most powerful in the 3025 game. When it went to the 3S/5S it got a lot more love, but up til then it really wasn't used by many mostly because of the design (a screaming "deathhead" is cool...sunglasses aren't...).

http://www.sarna.net...25_Banshee1.jpg

Things didn't improve much in 3050. No really, it looks like a sad bulldog.

http://www.sarna.net...050_Banshee.jpg

I think Justin Nelson in the Steiner XTRO got it most right with the redo of Kevin Long's version. Ppl would play that all day.

Man, I must have an awful sense of aesthetic because again, I love those designs, especially the Banshee. Now I must say the TRO 3025 is a bit off but when you look at the later TROs they, IMO, look awesome.

I get what you say on this: http://www.solaris7....Info.asp?ID=543

But this one I think rocks: http://www.solaris7....fo.asp?ID=16487

Its the same aesthetic, just different perspective.

As a longish time fan of the TT I do appreciate the old art, however, some of them are a bit...silly, in my opinion.

Like this: Turtle Neck + Vintage Diving Helmet + Star Wars Rebel Trooper Hat

http://www.sarna.net...50U_Cyclops.jpg

Also, count me as on the fence with the Phoenix stuff. Mixed bag.

The Wolfhound. Please. It's one of the most upsettingly "toy-like" 'Mechs I can think of.

Well if we ignore the 'unseen' my vote would be the Assassin

http://www.masteruni...Assassin-ASN-21

It's not the worst design but IMO it's not far back. The mech has a cool name, common who doesn't like the name assassin, it conjures up a hunter/killer whose job it is to take down light mechs, but I look at the picture and the most I can say is ....meh

Assassin? I think he's pretty fine, just the TRO drawing is screwed. He will get a slight redesign to fit into our current mech garage, though.

There's too many to name, really. It's all based on opinion, anyhow.

I'm not a fan of the Phoenix reseens. They're too rounded. 'Mechs need to be improved upon, not just totally redesigned, in keeping with their original aspects but with a modern flair.

All of them - I like FD's redesigns - but as Dihm said - anything that begins with Ost - they are the silliest excuses for mechs in their original form. I'd also like those mechs that "carry" a weapon have it built in - too mecha/anime otherwise.

A long time ago I'd have agreed with you especially with construction rules as they are. But with the idea of the omnimech, interchangeable hand weapons is a long overdue concept. Plus ALL 'MECHS NEED HANDS!

Well the Stalker really needs to be upgraded, I mean one of the most common assault 'mechs in the innersphere and nobody uses it because it looks silly.

I would also like to see a Wolfhound re-sculpted although I really don't think the wolfhound should be available on release as it's to good.

I really do like FD's designs but at the same time I have a great love for most/all of the original artworks.

If I had to name one to be messed with: Valkyrie

I think the Spider needs a re-design. But there are many surreal designs out there... basically anything where the art gets into conflict with the laws of physics needs a re-design.

Really? I like the Jagermech :)

But lets see, 'mechs that I think are just dumb...

...Hatchetman, Bersker, Battlemaster (oh how I loath you most of all), all the protomech's, LAMS, has more than 2 legs, and anything else that carries a giant gun with a hand, looks like a transformer or a is a protomech.

Yeah I think thats about it, but I will clear up that I think Transformers are great. Just they have no place in MechWarrior. Battletech the TT is different.

I like the Stalker. I think it could be made a little more fierce, but damn is it unique!

I never liked the Marauder (I think it was the weird spindly arms and legs), so sure, anything to give it a facelift would be great...

As for my personal votes:
  • Phoenix Hawk
  • Warhammer (reseen is fugly and ANYTHING to get a Warhammer in-game! ^_^)
  • Orion could use a minor update. I'm really hoping to see it, but it could stand to look a little less like a box full of boxes.
  • Highlander. It looks like a TV set with birthin' hips or FLCL's Cantide with chair-*** or E.T. or something. Could use a bit of love.
  • Rifleman. As with the Warhammer, the reseen is just awful, and I'd like to see it in-game.
  • Quickdraw and Firestarter - art by Flyingdebris look totally sweet! And the old designs are kinda spindly and meh. http://flyingdebris....F22908607&qo=27 http://flyingdebris....F22908607&qo=51
  • And with those looking so nice, the Griffin might as well get a little love, too!
  • Yesterday's Facebook poll got me thinking about the Wyvern - much more advanced appearance than a lot of the old designs, but I think it would clean up real nice.
  • The Wolfhound and Panther could both use a little tweaking - they're fundamentally cool designs, but look a bit like rickity toys.
  • The Commando has the same issue.
  • Enforcer. It's another great design that could use some tweaks to look a bit more functional.
  • Battlemaster could be a good candidate, a little less fishbowl syndrome would be nice, and it would be cool to get it in-game.
  • The Crockett - has it ever been in a MW video game? I'd like to see that come in, and it has the same bow-leggedness issue as the Highlander.
  • I don't think the Guillotine needs a redesign per se, but I'd like to see Flyingdebris' take on it. :)
