i much prefer the original designs, the way the original artists drew then back in the day. When a lot of people re-do something they screw it up, nothing wrong with the original looks of the mechs..dont like them..dont play them

what an incredibly stupid argument. by that logic, you'd be alright if they put in a walking banana or something even worse, since you don't have to play it.

no, each mech should look like they belong in the same universe. the original mechs do not belong in the same universe as the redesigned mechs. period.

yes, it's the original and we much have reverence for it. but because it's the original, it's the worst.

hmm, being a longtimer myself i raelly do love the older mechs. the Redesign's i have seen for the mechs made for MWO i have so far liked. Except the centurion, it looks a bit...... overdone to me. but heck i'll still pilot it. then again i have some sort of odd mental disorder taht makes me hate the chicken walkers,

but mechs i would like to see given the rework, T-bolt now a reseen. i miss that tankish front end and the fact taht it looked like arms and legs were starpped to a brick.

jagermech, just some tweaks to make it look as awsume as the dragon
Charger
Vindicator
and the locust. i have yet to see a version of that beastie taht doesnt give me the WTH look.

It is interesting to see that we all seem to have a different idea of what redesign means. When I started this thread, I intended redesign to mean updating the look of a mech, and the plausibility / physics of a mech while adhering to the spirit of the original designs (all of which I grew up with and love fiercely). This is the reason I appreciate and respect the new centurion but i will most likely never love it as i think--IMHO, which is worth squat--it went one step beyond being faithful to the spirit of the original. I have to be honest though and set my nostalgia aside to a certain degree as some of the originals just don't work in one way or another--and some are just poorly thought out and hideous--and I think this is the time to fix those as their appearance as is will make this game a little less engrossing than it could be.

Sorry Ostcout (Sir Needlearms McBellbottoms).

Greetings all,
I have seen quite a few posts asking which mech we (the people) would *like* to see get redesigned. I am curious which quintessential Battletech mech everyone thinks *needs* to be redesigned before finding its way into this game (mechs that, if included as-is, will make you throw up all over your HUD before you can get off a single shot). I am most interested in non-unseen, since those will most likely be redesigned whether we want them to be or not.

The first three that come to mind:

Banshee (I wear my sunglasses at night)
Cyclops (The Command Mech)
Crab (Pinocchio with a useless claw(s))

Others?

crabs claws werent useless in BT, they could snip a light/med mech in half easily at the waste, leaving it broken useless and probably destroyed. a crab ambushing your scout lance was a scary scary thing with those claws!

The Supernova, Urban mech, and the Annililator should be redesigned to resemble their weapons more, rather than the curves on the the torsos(Annililator, Urbanmech), and arms(Supernova). Add more textures to those areas is the only problem I see.
maybe even add missile pods to the Urban Mech's body, a 360 degree cover. :ph34r:

It's like a misshappen puppy with front-leg paralysis which can kill you; I rather like the Microsoft redesign, though, I'd just like to see the arm structures and cockpit re-done, based on their model.

Check out the model from MechWarrior: Living Legends. It's amazing. But when the time comes, I'd totally love to see FD do it.

I like most things about the crab, except for the claws but I never thought of them for that use. They seem a little flimsy for that in the original art. I like the sketches of FD's that are floating around here...those claws look meaty and serrated, and a little more useful. Kind of like the power loader from Aliens. I could see them being used to crush an arm or two (if melee ever makes it in).

Huh? When was that? The "claws" have always only been a movable armored cowling to protect the arm mounted weapons.

I just have to say this too - can you imagine a battle where someone is running in terror from a 'Mech because it has claws?

I'm not a fan of the Stalker and the Blackhawk. They're too bulky and the Blackhawk just looks too odd :unsure:

Since we have seen the unexpected updating of the Cataphract get some serious love, I thought I'd pull this one out of mothballs:

Since we have no 20 ton mechs, and assuming no unseen for the near future, I would like to see one of the following get a redesign:

Mercury
Hornet
Flea

MARAUDER

Not because I like the mech, but because it's one of the stupidest-looking ones with the most fanboys.

  • All the Unseens/Reseens. If Alex Iglesias make his renditions of the Reseens, we would all forget the old Unseens. (and it would solve all legal issues)
Ugly mechs that need a serious review: (I'm only mentioning those I think can eventually be in the game)
  • Orion;
  • Quickdraw;
  • UrbanMech (though the one made by Ironhawk in perfect);
  • Banshee;
  • Grasshopper;
  • Flashman;
  • Black Knight;
  • Firestarter;
  • Cyclops.
Mechs that don't need an actual redesign:
  • All clan mechs (except, perhaps, the Black Lanner and the Warhawk);
  • Annihilator;
  • Crab;
  • King Crab;
  • Blackjack.

Seriously? Have you ever see the MWO mechs?

And I'm sorry, there is something wrong with the original looks of the mechs: many are ugly and ridiculous.
