Verena Bannson is rather more difficult to pin down. Drawing conclusions from what I can find, she runs Bannson Mercantile, a new trading company that seems to be doing rather well at the moment.

Hmm, yeah, today's news began shinig with new colors after your comment. Verena Bannson may be linked to Trellis Elerctronics and Xiaver Bannson somehow, I guess.
So that could lead either to losttech from Trellis Electronics stealed by FedCom or to advanced stars-treveling tech "immigration" to CapCon. Maybe both

Note, LF batteries can also be built onto standard jumpships, allowing them to distribute dropships to the end system in half the time.
While LF batteries are expensive, the economic and strategic benefits outweigh that cost.
Basically, if "theiy" build them, you have to also, or you'll be left in the dust.

Wasn't that the woman who appeared in last year's April issue of the Federation Playboy? Giving the Holopress something to go ballistic about for like a month?

History:
I.U. is an enigma. For the past 50 years, the company has slowly been acquiring companies in a haphazard fashion. There is no apparent plan behind the company's actions, yet its acquired companies bloom into new productivity after I.U. takes over.
Attempts to establish a history for the company prior to 2971 have proven futile. It seems to have appeared fully grown on the planet Marlette in that year. Its first recorded action was acquisition of the Triple-F restaurant chain, a large and popular group of fast-food restaurants. It seems incredible, if not impossible, for a company with enough assets to swallow up a large and profitable restaurant chain could have blossomed overnight.
* * *
In effect, I.U. is one of the Federated Suns' two biggest companies (after Federated Boeing), and though nothing else is mentioned about them in the sourcebooks I have, it isn't surprising that that I.U. would buy out (or even restart) a company that builds the KF drive - certainly I.U. has the resources, as shown by the Triple-F acquisition (according to the information, there are over 5,000 Triple-F restaurants on over 250 worlds in the Federated Suns) particularly if they've expanded into the Lyran markets as I would suspect.
Yay, obscure lore!

Further evidence for any who still think FASA didn't pillage a million other ideas from other franchises (certain licensed 'Mech designs included), are full of it.
C'mon.... B. Banzi, the Fighting Urukhai, Klandathu (sure... swap an "e"), it does seem to go on...

Lemme take a stab at this...
BattleTech has nearly 30 years of 'lore' written - and the developers know that there are many folks here who grew up reading the novels, collecting the sourcebooks and immersing themselves in the fictional 'history' - so they've been whetting our appetites with these ISN news flashes. They may or may not be relevant in-game, but I for one think it's pure awesomeness to see an ISN news flash and say 'Hey, I remember that!' and break out a book I bought more than 20 years ago, sit back and my chair, and dive into this world once again.

There is also a planet in the FedSuns named Numenor and in (I believe the AFFS Field Manual) there is a colonel named Gandulf!
