First, of course I'm serious. Giant stompy walking tanks (of doom) are very serious business, no? Plus germanic stereotypes have no sense of humor, right? It is known. So of course I'm serious.

Second, thanks for demonstrating my point: that those outside Lyran space not only don't understand proper beer, they also seek to suppress discussion of proper beer, to erase it from human memory.

I'm sorry, I'd forgotten how seriously some people took beer. However your notion of proper beer is a matter of opinion. Not everyone shares it.

The Beer Prayer

Our lager,
which art in barrels,
hallowed by thy drink

Thy will be drunk
(I will be drunk)
at home as at 5 Seasons

Give us this day our foamy head
and forgive us our spillages
as we forgive those that spill against us

And lead us not into incarceration
but deliver us from hangovers

For thine is the beer,
the bitter and the lager,
for ever and ever

Barmen

And there's 7 billion people in the world, not all of which drink beer. My point is Jost cannot claim what kind of beer is the best as if it's a fact. I respect his opinion, but there isn't necessarily a best beer. Just the one that's best for you.

Perhaps I should should just drop the whole thing it's clear this topic was made in jest. :P

Eh, what do I care about the brewsade anyway, I'm a merc. I want what's readily available, can get me drunk, and doesn't taste like it was made in a bath tub or similar brewing method.

Keep trying. There is 15-20 pilots a night on there now. There have been a handful of nights here recently that 3 full teams (plus a few) where on. We need to keep adding pilots so the play times lengthen. If you come in and see a few on, stick around and watch it grow. The "HuB" wants your love!

I do keep trying. And tonight I actually found and joined a lance... only to be unable to drop with them due to the server going bouncy-bouncy.

Welcome, Hayden. Indeed, an interesting question. I've left off characterizing St.Ives (and the Capellans in general) because it presents a quandary: its history suggests that it should favor real beer, but its physical location makes it very vulnerable to pressure from the outside beverage distributors.

I believe that the answer to your question is yet to be written: will St. Ives stand up for real beer, or will it go down in history as yet another consumer of "beer"?

The choice is yours.

I stand for Real Beer, for Candace, and for the Compact. The choices are all obvious.

As a zymurgist (homebrewer) for just under a decade I can assure you there is simply no "best" beer because different moods, tastes , seasons and environments all contribute to the enjoyment of said holy beverage. Did you know hops were originally used not for their flavor, but because the acid in them made the brew spoil slower on long travels from ENGLAND to their warriors? It's true, original beers were honey meads and used no hops. Ales, lagers, Stouts, Porters, Bocks, Pilsners... all have distinct charateristics and each has their own place at the table. Say what you want about German brews, to be sure they are good... but they perfected the art they didn't create it.

Does this mean we're going to be spending all our time in aerospace fighters shooting down freighters full of bud light?

  • In space ruled by both Liao and Draconis, what passes for beer is made from rice. Yes, rice.
  • On Marik worlds, they make beer from corn and, I'm told, from potatoes.
  • In the non-Lyran portions of the Federated Commonwealth, I hesitate to write these words, but what they call beer, whether made from the ordained ingredients or from one of these ersatz starches, is often adulterated with strange ingredients. I have heard rumors of something called cheese beer, and worse besides, but I shall refrain from writing more lest I affright young readers.
  • Our brothers of the Free Rasalhague Republic make a beverage from fermented honey, which they have the honesty to not call beer (I believe it's called "mead"), and yet this too is a threat to the purity of our sacred essence

You're offended by this? Merely 1600 years ago, brewers simply urinated into empty bottles, selling the vile "products" to unsuspecting consumers.

I believe they called it "Miller Genuine Draft", though my translation could be a bit off.
