OK I have to admit.. other than WoW and ST:O (which both became F2P recently) I never played a F2P game really..

Well here it is week 3(?) of playing WoT.. and OMG.. !!!

Before I disclose how much I have paid to play this free game I was wondering what how much others pay..?

ST:O I bought a lifetime membership at the launch and havent played it much since it went F2P

WoW I still pay my monthly fee because I play every now and again and my sons both play as well on my account.. So its a good investment for $14 a month..

WoT.. uh.. well.. Hmm.. total in three weeks I have spent close to $80 I think.. as much if I had just bought a stupid game and I am not done yet..

Of the three I like WoT more right now (Might be novelty.. but who knows)..

All I know is I KNOW I will be playing MW:O MORE than WoT so I hope its "Cheaper".. otherwise I may have to cut back on other expenses..

So what other F2P/Subscription games have you guys played and how much have you spent (even if you are embarrased to admit it).

BTW - MW:O needs to happen soon before I am to broke to play it.. :D

WoT wears thin pretty fast. I dropped over $200 on my account and now barely play the game. Don't get me wrong the game is fun, but the developer just isn't on the ball.

F2P games usually suck up way too much money from me...

I've played Mabinogi (spent over $200), Vindictus (spent over $100), and League of Legends (oh god, I don't even want to think about it. Safe estimate? $700+).

On the plus side, I've never regretted spending money in any of these games, as I have enjoyed my experiences with them immensely. The main thing that I hope for with MW:O is that it doesn't become a Pay-2-Win, which from what I've seen of the developers talking about it, shouldn't be an issue.

Only F2P PC game I played was Savage 2 (I don't think you could even buy anything at all in the game). Living Legends also add the cost of Crisis Wars.

Exactly I dont have a problem with spending money on WoT..

A night at the movies is $60.. if for $24 I have hours of fun.. so be it.

To me its not a comparable about game v game.. its about was X dollars worth my entertainment dollar. If the answer was yes.. then the games a winner.

Good to know I am not the only that feels that way..

One of the few F2P games I ever spent any real money on, oddly enough was Pangya, an online instanced golfing game. There was something supremely fun about it and I just -had- to have that new set of clubs to work on!

Barring that, I seem to recall putting some money into Exteel before the servers finally went down. I just...couldn't help myself. Otherwise, most of the F2P games I've played just have never appealed to me to lay money down on them. I'm not exactly cheap...but I gotta be really compelled to spend money on something!

Now MWO...I -know- some money is going to be spent on this game. If nothing else, to make sure the game keeps afloat. I want this game to succeed so badly I can taste it. I want this to set a precedent for mech related games. I love mechs... Well, you can take a peak at my sig and the group I've been working with their but I digress!

MechWarrior, Armored Core, Front Mission, ...Metal Gear to an extent (MGS4...those who've played it to that point know what I'm talking about  ).

I've played (and still play) League of Legends and Team Fortress 2. I've dabbled in a couple others, but they were always pay to win games....

I've started playing lots of f2p and p2w games, WoT being the latest. So far, I haven't found a game that could keep my longtime motivation mostly because of blatant use of RevenueEnhancingDevices * or lack of content.

Well, League of Legends sounds interesting, but I prefer games with more direct controls.

Oh yeah. I remember the first day I went to TVTropes.org... I still don't know what happened to those 8 hours.

Team Fortress 2 is F2P now, so technically I am playing a F2P game as well, yes ;). But I paid for it back in 2007 when the public beta came out.

F2P Games I've played.....

DDO - Dungeon & Dragons Online - the one that started the 'f2p crazy' even though anarchy online did it years ago. This one is fun but more for folks that like(d) D&D 3.5 edition pen and paper. Heavily instanced but still fun and more 'action based' than most MMOs.

Lotro - Lord of the Rings Online - this game I played in beta and almost a year after release then came back to beta the f2p and still play it off and on. Great game and allows you to grind out content instead of pay if you so desire, but it can be a long haul. Lots of fun and fairly standard MMO fair. Some complain about the store popping up but I don't mind it.

LoL - League of Legends - I will be honest and say I did not think I would like this game at first. Got frustrated with it and almost gave up on it, then my friends talked me back into it and gave me some pointers. With the new npc bot ai it is fun to play against bots instead of some of the turds that make up the pvp community. Love the way the f2p is implemented as it isn't overbearing.

RoM - Runes of Magic - another fairly standard fantasy MMO and most folks compare it very heavily to WoW (World of Warcraft). I find it is different enough to be interesting but the friends I was playing it with got bored so I haven't played it in 6 months now. Seems solid.

Allods Online - Another standard fantasy MMO, and this one is a lot like WoW but with a bit of difference atmosphere. I played it until I figured out that all the end game content was pvp which I don't particularly like in fantasy MMOs.

STO - Star Trek Online - Nice space themed mmo with a really interesting and dynamic space combat element, but it is a pity that the ground combat and missions are both repetitive and somewhat bland. If you are more of a fan of star trek then I am you may like it but it just wasn't my cup of tea. Very non intrusive as far as trying to get you to buy things though, which is nice.

WoT - World of Tanks - Great gameplay and really neat art and graphics, but the only problem with this game is that once you advance to a certain point the system of xp/credits tends to make you either grind like mad or buy the 'premium' time. The clan wars and some of the match gameplay seem to be on the minds of the MWO crew though, so worth a shot. I play it off and on, but I keep in mind that you don't have to take it seriously to have fun with it.

Black Prophecy - Good space shooter, but kinda plagued by some bugs for me so I didn't get too far into it. From what I did play it felt sort of like the old X-Wing games, but set in a universe more like mass effect. I haven't played it in a long while though and from what I heard a lot of the end content was faction vs faction pvp.

Those are some of the ones I have tried, the rest I either can't remember or weren't worth mentioning.

Hmm... I think I played quite a lot of F2P games (mostly RPG) over the last couple of years. The only ones I still play are D&D-Online and LoL... though I take time off when I don't even bother looking at the games' homepages. Most F2P games start out great but become tedious monotony after a couple of weeks (basically once you finish the tutorial section).

The only two F2P games I've played are WoT and ST:O and I really like them both. Can't wait for MW:O though ;).

I play DotA 2, Tribes: Ascend and WoT right now. Apart from Tribes, my experience with F2P games just got better. DotA 2 does perfect job of making a successor for DotA, WoT is really fun, mostly because it is unique (that keeps me from giving up with all the flaws the game has). Only Tribes: Ascend tends to screw things up. And I played LoL and TF 2, some time ago. ;)

ST:O
DDO
Gundam Fighter Online
Maple Story

Honestly I only ever paid $5 on Gundam. Problems for me was that none of my friends ever played so the willingness to spend money to "win" or extend content wasn't there.

MWO will be different though, mostly cause I want to support the franchise.

Ditto. I may finally have to give World of Tanks a try. I've been resisting it because of the end game and how it basically suckers you into paying the monies. I like to pay because I want to, not because I have to when it comes to F2P. But that's my own mentality.

I wouldnt say it suckers you, or forces you for that matter.

I find it as fun to play the Tier 2 tanks (Fully upped) as the level 4 arty I have. THe way it matches you can make it fun.. now if your like me and sometimes OCD on things.. you could spend money real fast..

You can also be paitent and not spend money and just play to have fun..

Overall I think WoT is a good balance. MW:O I hope takes up a bit though.

DDO - Dungeon & Dragons Online ;)

I'm sure I spent a couple of hundred dollars on that over a couple years... ^_^
I've only played once in the last year or so however. :o
