Besides being the ship that drops your lance off at the beginning of the game, do you think dropships should play some other role? Just share your thoughts regarding dropships and what role they should play after you get dropped.

Personally, I think we should get 4 options (2 spheres, 2 aerodynes)...
- Leopard
- Union
- Triumph
- Overlord

Each has a different carrying capacity, "insertion speed" (at beginning of game), perks for the "Commander" skill tree (suggest you look at that), and salvage capacity.

Leopard
  • Fast insertion speed
  • Carries 1 lance of mechs
  • Inaccurate drops
  • Releases 2 ASF's for the "Airstrike" ability
  • Weak "Danger Closer" ability (gun run)
  • Deploys UAV's and Drones quickly
  • Low salvage capacity
Union
  • Medium insertion speed
  • Carries 2 lances of mechs
  • Accurate drops
  • Releases 2 ASF's for the "Airstrike" ability
  • Average "Danger Close" ability (hovers over battlefield)
  • Deploys UAV's and Drones at average speed
  • Low salvage capacity
Triumph
  • Medium insertion speed
  • Carries 2 lances of mechs
  • Inaccurate drops
  • Drops 2 Longtom's for the "Artillery" ability
  • Average "Danger Close" ability (AC-130 style circling)
  • Deploys UAV's and Drones at average speed
  • High salvage capacity

Overlord
  • Slow insertion speed
  • Carries 3 lances of mechs
  • Accurate drops
  • Drops 2 Longtom's for "Artillery" ability, 4 ASF's for the "Airstrike" ability
  • Powerful "Danger Close" ability (Slowly circles and bombards battlefield)
  • Deploys UAV's and Drones slowly
  • High salvage capacity
Of course, this system could use some tuning. But you get the picture. Maybe Lone Wolves should get a little K-1 Dropshuttle for themselves?

The commander could sit in the drop-ship and send orders from there, and control guns etc.

The commander should be in the vang in a 'Mech getting a piece of the action. Your commander might be the lynchpin that helps ensure victory. I expect that many battle veterans, especially those that led their units in the past will fit the commander role like a glove. Maybe the commander should as you say, spend some time with his unit on the holotank planning a strategy for the upcoming battle based on available intel, if any. But If I have any say, you won't see my lessers (rankwise) strapping in and powering up reactors while im in front of a holotank. No sir. Safeties off - all systems nominal.

At the very least I am hoping the commander can choose the drop points.

as an actual objective or a place to run to or attack from in mission, would love it. As an actual playable piece of hardware, absolutely not at this point
