Well, the real reticle lags behind your aim (mech needs to target) and as such it shouldn't matter that the one with joystick needs 1 more second to aim, by the time the mechs themselves turn and aim, both are ready to fire.
At least that's how I see it.

Agreed. Plus, you can get finer adjustments with a joystick than keyboard and most DEFIANTLY better everything than a console. (Xbox sucks!)
Disagree.
I prefer an Xbox controller (Specifically) because it is easier on my Arthritis than a keyboard or joystick can be, or even other game pads.
So....

I think everyone who writes without looking at the keyboard and playing with the creation of computer graphics using the mouse (playing on the tablet is hard) would be in favor ofthe keyboard and mouse. The joystick has a lot of advantages, but will never win with the precision of the mouse.
Well, there's an exception. If you have a smooth control movements form and regardless of-sight control, we can do a wonderful trick
Walking with the joystick and aiming with the mouse ... try, this is a beautiful thing
And autumn comes to pads, etc..
Just no, it's not for me: P

Most games I use the mouse/keyboard for, but for some console ports I've got the wireless adapter to use the 360 controllers with the PC. I used a Gravis gamepad when I first started gaming to play X-Wing and Mechwarrior. Once I got a joystick I've used one ever since for any type of combat simulator. I never had any problem while using a joystick against people using mouse/keyboard. When I played Mechwarrior 3 multiplayer while on deplayment I dominated against the mouse/keyboard users, I was the only one that had brought a joystick along, all 4 computers we used for multiplayer gaming were built to the exact same specs.

Joystick all the way!!! Time to get out the thrustmaster flight yoke modified with the thrust mapper which makes that legacy hardware run on windows 7. Nothing like a metal f-16 flight yoke.

I personally intend to play with a joystick, if the option is well-supported. My primary concern is how multiplayer will be balanced with different players using different input methods, some more inherently accurate than others.
A good example of this rift was when playing Forza 2 on the 360. Very few players used the Xbox 360 Steering Wheel (which, by the way, was a very well-made peripheral) because it was inherently more difficult to drive a car with, and required much more skill on the part of the player. Players with half your skill in driving will run laps on you because of how much steering and braking assistance was given to gamepads.
In Forza's case, the only way to insure a level playing field was to get into a small community of "wheel-drivers" where it's understood that that's what everyone uses.
I hope that MWO features some sort of "peripheral tag" or other such system where you can select to only play with / bias your matches to play with people that use a similar input method as yours.

Not exactly, since the arms reticle won't have such a lag at all.

All I am truely hoping for is the ability to fully customize my control mapping. Is that realy too much to ask for? I'll try every control system at my disposal till I find one that works best for me. Different mechs will probably have slightly different control setups for me. I might have one mech I do exclusivly KB and Mouse, antoher I use an XBox 360 controller and another I may use a joystick. it all depends on how the controls match the Mech.

I Intend to go MEGAS XLR and use multiples of all three types.
And for your mapping needs, there is a program called Xpadder. I was able to map my 360 controller to move my mouse courser, among many other things.
