We were supposed to go watch this thing in a group this week, but things came up.

Next week it is then!

Also, relevant:

Well, it's showing in parts of Europe at the moment. Still to be determined for the US/Canada. Entertainment One is doing the distribution for both. Back to twiddling thumbs...

Nazi's on the moon? That sounds exactly like the plot in the Legend of Koizumi manga where the greatest world leaders decided the fate of the world using Mahjong.

This is the manliest Mahjong ever.

Okey I watched it.

Downfall Hitler meme reference (audience burst out as soon as the eyglasses were taken off with shaking hands). Also, North Koreans are being silly again ("Dear Leader built it with his own hands", that's what you said about fusion reactors few years back). I'm also not sure which on is bettter, Dundee-1 or Space Battlestation Mir (Mir probably wins out due to a reference to Finnish comedy show from early '90s).

Overall suprisingly good movie though. As in good good, not bad good. Plot doesn't quite go the way you'd think, and characters are more fletched out than in 90% of Hollywood stuff.

It was my pleasure to donate some money to the authors for their previous movie (Star Treck: In The Pirkinning). I paid them a couple of beers.

Don't spoil it for the rest of us! Still waiting on the damned Canadians with the distribution rights here on this side of the world to do their jobs! Release dates in the whole western hemisphere are still *TBD. I honestly think I'll be playing MWO before I get to see this movie. Failing that, I will have personally invaded Canada by July. This time it isn't 44 40 or fight. its Iron Sky by June 6th (D-Day) or Canadians are all going on sale! Everyone MUST go! No prices TOO LOW!

Opens in Australia on May 10th! Still no word on the Western Hemisphere. Apparently last!

I finally watched it in cinema yesterday evening.
Aside from most of the stuff from the trailers not making it in, it was an awesomely hillarious movie! ^^

Heinlein put Nazis in space (Rocketship Galileo) so why not a bunch of Fin movie makers :P

I watched it in the German theatrical premiere, and have to say that I've only seen people stand up and applaud one other time, back then with the Dark Knight.

Heard from other people who went and watched it that the audiences got less and less clever/humoured the further back it went, meaning that the first people to see it were also the coolest

Did anyone else get reminded of that old game DEFCON from the... uh, no "spoilers" function here? Ack.

Anyway, it's a political satire that overshadows anything else I saw previously. It takes stereotypes and memes and plays them hilariously straight, sometimes it subverts them, and turns it into a conglomerate of awesome. It doesn't spam jokes or gags, it never tells them outright, yet the sheer ridiculousness of it all makes you laugh. And if you don't, then go collect stamps or something, you bore xD

Are you kidding??? That most of the stuff from the trailers we saw didn't make it in? LOL. Man it's going to be September by time this gets to the U.S. I have to see this after hearing the first reviews.

Yep, i think from all 3 trailers, not even 3 scenes made it in . . only 2 i think, if i remember correctly . .
But it does not detract much from the movie. It's only really noticeable, if you watch all 3 trailers shortly before the movie itself.

It also helps if you are familiar with a range of internet meme... one specifically is Downfall.

First trailer was something they made just to gain support and funding for the project before the work actually started. Second trailer then shows only parts of the finished movie. There are several other minor video clips that have been released in between those two and they do show some stuff that didn't make it into the final movie.

Yeah. Initially they were just a bunch of friends making some animations just for the lulz, but over time those got better and better and years of making silly video clips as a hobby culminated in making Star Wreck : In The Pirkinning.
