I may have missed it mentioned, but have been wondering about how many pilots/characters we may see for an account. Most if not all mmo games have several character slots available. I am thinking 4, this would give us the chance to fill different roles more efficiently. For instance i have a scout pilot, an assault pilot a pilot good with a support mech and a close combat specialist. Each pilot would advance in their respective skills and mech chassis accordingly. So the player then has a chance to be more flexible when filling a role for the lance. One pilot means you are only going to be able to do one thing. So you could refit a medium or heavy mech for electronic warfare and use the appropriate pilot for the mission. Or even long range fire support. Would depend on the mission.
By the way i am new to this forum stuff, so if i did something wrong let me know

Interesting thoughts. But why don't you just get 4 'Mechs for one dude?

What I was thinking was.....You have a pilot, decide to fill the scout roll. Take the appropriate skill set. When it comes time to form up for a mission you find that you are without fire support, but there is a scout available. So you swap to your "fire support"pilot and have a ballanced lance, with a pilot that has the skillset for the role. I'm not saying the player cannot fill all roles, but with skill trees comes a focus on roles for the pilot.
Hope that made sense

ok you get 1 character/pilot per account
there is no reason to have more
you can unlock all skills with the one pilot
so when you are max level you will be able to play scout/assault/defense/commander all at maximum capacity
you will not need to go making alt accounts or twinks
you can even level multiple trees at the same time if you wish or you can specialize early to achieve maximum power for that class before moving on
you can play scout max it out and level your commander skill with out even playing commander roles
or you can go for a jack of all trades, master of none style leveling progress if it floats your boat
you can swap modules unlock from one mech to another too, so you dont need to worry about having unused space while your leveling
