I personally(if I was PGI but I not) use the beta time to collect data on the cheater, Let them think there getting away with it. But once we launch CW I would reset the cheaters account (only leaving them the MC gotten items) set their C-bill to -2,000,000,000 (That a Negative for those who missed it), reset any MC gotten mech back to their Default Layout, and remove all other item left if stock. Their account would keep getting reset to the above every 30days until the cheats are removed. (Any MC use on Premium is just lost too)

Agree with wolf. Consequences for cheating should be extreme. You should lose everything that was accumulated during the cheating spree.

EDIT: Because all the info is stored server side, things like speed hacks and no heat hacks aren't possible. Aimbots and fram bots tend to stand out a bunch when you look over player stats (like % of shots fired hitting the head, path your mech takes, etc)

I believe you are correct, since things like missile locks and hit detection is server side, the thing I'm most worried about is visibility.

From what I have read about most games is that It's far too difficult for a server to only send the location of targets within radar range. Therefore, in most games the client has access to the position of all players on the map. That would make all the position data a target for hackers.

Here's hoping PGI has done something different,

I really hope some kind of anti-cheat gets put in the game.
Like you said, cheating in F2P games has became rampant, I wouldn't like to see MWO ruined by cheaters.

Problem is, which has been stated, all the cheaters need to do is start a new account and do it all over again. Even an IP ban is easy to get around as most consumer level ISP's do not give you a static IP, they rotate semi regularly. Even still, its not hard to change your IP with very little interwebs knowledge.

I personaly have not run into anything that has made me say to myself "Now thats a hack/cheat right there"

I haven't really seen evidence of aimbots yet, likely due to the server side programming.... however, that doesn't mean there aren't cheats.

The most annoying ones I have seen remove the LOS requirement on radar. Essentially, your enemy ALWAYS knows where you are on the map and can always target you. Line-of-sight not required. It's pretty easy to tell when someone is using this.

The other one is supposedly pretty simple, and involves changing your .ini file. Apparently you can remove the forced "fog of war" that exists when using the current Thermal Vision.
This means that things don't turn to black at 300+m, and you can spot the bright white heat signatures of mechs at any distance.
It's easy to tell when someone is using this as well, and sniping you from 1000m with great accuracy on River City Night while moving in an ECM Mech.

And how would you spot the radar hack? You can't really tell if someone else has advanced situational awareness via the radar hack or is just lucky and spotted you even under ECM...

Why do these old "cheating" threads get necroed today?

As always:
Contact support@mwomercs.com about it, if you suspect someone of cheating. Add as many informations to your mail as possible.
