this might be asking bit much but thought id throw it out there, id like to see the Mechwarrior 2 mercenaries type of menu system return. for example you started out in a merc compound, from there you could go to the hanger, drop ship, contract room and parts dealer. all of these areas were very detailed to make you feel part of the BT universe. im just sick of standard Menu start buttons. lets see some animated INTERACTIVE background menus bring back that MW2 feeling. I'm wholeheartedly agreeing with a revamped style of these menus for MWO. I loved the feel it gave you in MW2 and that was lost with the utilitarian style menus of MW4, though they were still nicely done menus.

I'd like to give an example of menu degradation in game series with the Mech Commander series. MC Gold which I currently have, has a great menu design, simple, useful, nice to look at... But jeez, MC2's menu was crud! A Black background with some 'wireframe' graphics made it cold, annoying, and most of all less appealing. The only thing that saved MC2 for me was the gameplay was pretty fun.

Yeah the menu system should be revampt to. Even as far as giving us a personal pilot and letting him/her run around a base or a dropship that would be awse giving the players not only a mech to costomise but a pilot too . But my point being you'd have to run your char to the mech bay or to the bar to pick up a contract or meet other players these areas would be your menues and I think integrating that would be a nice touch to interactivity within the game

Makes you think just how far computers have evolved, Remember the Voodoo video cards ?

back then the did everything they could to make a game better, worked hard on the little things, added in stuff to read, and now they just throw great graphics and expect you to bow down to a cra**y game play.

Truth is if they took any of the old games , made them exactly the same just updated the graphics, and they would make Billions , thats Billions with a "B"!

Ah, good ol' MW2. Never liked Jade Falcon - Wolf was always my Clan of choice... Until Ghost Bear's Legacy came out, that is ;) . Too bad I can't get it to work on my computer - if I had the DOS version, I could work something out, but I have the Pentium edition

As far as the menus go, I would love to see something like that in the new game - it would definitely make things a lot more immersive. If they have to sacrifice the special menus for better gameplay (Keep in mind that they have deadlines, budget constraints, etc.), though, I can live with that.

Here is a challenge for people... re do the game menus for MW2 GBL, mainly the three you see. Ice Cave Hall, first missions briefing room and then aboard the Justice dropship.

What would be totally cool (and totally unlikely) would be to allow us to "skin" our own menu screens with whatever screen shot we like...

Or...

Have a different menu for every faction in the game, allowing us to choose which menu screen we see based on which faction we belong to.

Heck.. why not both! ;)

I'm a proponent for having 'home' screens akin to the MW2 Wolf and Falcon bases. Thus a player part of each house would have a house themed menu, mercs having a...utilitarian menu? Or maybe a slightly different house-based menu if they align themselves to any specific house for a period of time/missions. Obviously Lone Wolfs will get the shaft on this one and just get a 'basic' menu.

I'm 100% for menu styles for each house like the MW2 menus. I loved those menus so much and they made a great game better and great better immersion.

I prefer the MW2 : Mercs home screen.
Complete with my own office, mechbay, computer etc

But hey that is a merc's life ;)

oh yeah, totally +1 for different menus per faction
wouldn't be hard given the talent available

how awesome would it be to see your own assets parked out side the windows so the scenes change over time

I think the vast majority will agree here that MW2 and MW2:Mercs were a thing of beauty. In terms of soundtrack, atmosphere and the whole load of things surrounding the actual gameplay. Especially considering the technical limits when it came out. If you actually look at the time between the original MW2 and MW4 passed and the actual "improvements" in the ambient content between these two iterations of a MW game, you really start to relish how great MW2 was. Anything that goes into that direction again will be much appreciated and likely be a major selling factor for PGI as well.

You just need to realize how much actual time you will spend in your Mech hangar/the game lobby/whatever and not on a battlefield to realize how important it is to put some quality design work into that. :)

I was just thinking about this myself, and in google image searching for a screen of MW2 Merc's menus to show a friend, I found this thread. ha!

I think it would require a lot of effort for something that is not looked at very long, so the devs probably will not do it (they have their hand's full with vital features already) certainly not initially. That being said, I really enjoyed the realistic menus in Mercs, they wer ethe best of any game I ever played and gave the entire gaming experience a highe rlevel of realism and immersion.

True story; when the 101st airborne (Screaming Eagles) deployed to Vietnam, they were feared by the Vietcong and called "Chicken soldiers" because there is no word for eagle in the Vietnamese langauge.
