Honestly this game doesnt really stress the video card that much. I'm running a 8800GT and it runs fine on medium

the CPU is more important. I upgraded from a C2D E7300 to a C2Q Q9550 and what a world of difference it makes, from jerky slide-show to smooth.

Yeah, make sure you have a quad core Intel.

I found myself having to decide on which to upgrade first... My 1GB gtx 550 Ti or intel Core 2 duo 2.66 ? Both is running around 20 - 30 FPS on lowest setting 1920x1080 and mono audio. I have 4GB ddr2 800 Ram on windows Ultimate.

I can either add another gtx 550 Ti for SLI setup or get a quad core like the Q9550. Due to budget reasons, I can only upgrade 1.

Which one would get me the biggest difference in FPS? Any suggestion

Get the quad core. It will give the biggest change to fps.

Edit: Your GPU is plenty to run the game just fine.

GeForce 660 ti, fantastically powerful for $300 range.

Be aware though. I have a GTX 460 1gb which other people have had good experience with but I have struggled. Looking at their system specs in comparison to mine, the main difference is that they have quad core CPU's where as I am still running a Core2Duo. I have now managed to reduce settings so I can run the game playably (with much tweaking) but if you have less than an E7200 CPU it may be better to look towards buying or building a new system.

Also when fitting a new graphics card, be aware it is important to make sure your power supply can handle it as cards like the GTX560 Ti use 2 PCIE power connectors. I am not sure about the power figures for that card but mine needs a currant of 26A. If your PSU is not up to that, you would need to factor that into your upgrade. You will also want at least 4gb of RAM.

No reason at all to change your GPU here.
Your GPU is even above the recommended specs I think.
Go for the CPU, that will help greatly.

I use a 2GB GTX 560 Ti card and a 6 core CPU myself and have never had any performance issues.
No reason to get a 6 core though, a quad core will be sufficient for this game.

Thanks!! I listened and ended up upgrading my E67500 2.66 CPU to a qx6700 (same speed cpu but 4 cores now)and kept the same gtx 550 ti and now my FPS at low settings is 25 - 50+.. I can now even play on medium settings with 20 - 40+ FPS.

thanks for the suggestion guys.

Another question, Im trying to talk my friend into playing this game but his Computer is 5 years old. Can you tell me if his Dell XPS 720 h2c desktop can handle this game in medium setting atleast?

PC specs are: watercooled intel core 2 quad core extreme qx6700 at 2.66 cpu, two 8800 GTX in SLI, 8GB ddr 2 800mhz, SB X-FI extreme music sound card.

He should be able to play in low to medium with that rig,

Turn down the screen resolution from 1920 to 1600 or 1280 to increase performance.

I will say the GTX 550 ti can run this game pretty well, and it's about 110 - 130 bucks. Even with the fact I have an old AMD Athlon 64 x2 6000+ (3.0 Ghz) and 8 GB of RAM, I should be able to run this on low grapics and still get about 20 - 30 fps. So I'll agree with the other guys saying that a 550 ti or better will work for you. I haven't had an ATI in a long time, but I do know the HD 6750s and above will do quite well as long as you have a good processor and RAM to back it up. I would suggest an Intel i5 or i7 and at least 8 GB of RAM. The AMD are a good one too because they are a little cheaper, but they will run hotter. More heat = slower engine.

I also want to add that for the people like me who have the older processors, you're going to not get a lot of frame rate. This game's engine is multi-core supported. The more cores and high processor speed (like 2.5 Ghz and above), the better you're going to be. Athlon 64's, Core 2 duos, and Pentium E-series chips are going to have a hard time since they are mostly dual core chips. If you want performance, Quad Core is going to be the way to go.

Does Mechwarrior online utilize physics card at all? Im Thinking of putting back my 8800 gtx as a 2nd card for physics in addition to my main gtx 550 ti. Would it make a big diferrence in FPS/graphics?

8800gtx will be sitting on top slot of my gtx 550 ti. Thus, blocking the fan. This causes a 5c to 10c increase in temperature. Last time the max temp on my gtx 550 ti went to high 80s c with the 8800 gtx as physics at full load, now it on low 70s with out it. So I took it off lol.

Should I put the 8800 gtx as a physics card in addition to my gtx 550 ti as my main card?

my system specs is:

intel quad core extreme qx6700
8gb ddr2 800mhz memory

Exactly, the best card you can buy for that money. I'm planning on picking one up soon. Plus free Borderlands 2 with the card.
It's a GTX 670 GPU with a lower memory bandwidth. So It kicks ***.

I second your question, I have a GTX 460 with plenty of space for a 8800 GTX laying in a box ready for Physics offload.
