Mr. Burger's 7th grade history class. Teachers kept coming in and talking to one another until they finally just put it on the TV.

I was sat at home (in the Midlands) on my PC, doing various things with the telly on in the background on a news channel (forget which, actually, could have been Sky News but it doesn't really matter). The first thing that I noticed was connections drop on IRC and other things, then slowly start to come back up with major lag and into the west coast rather than the east of the USA. I started to search for what was up but it was hopeless, most sites didn't seem to be responding and I gave up, looked at the news and saw that a plane had just crashed into the WTC, in New York.

There had been something similar in France, as I recall, not too long ago and my family has connections to aviation so I was thinking in terms of how terrible that would be to clean up and the inevitable fallout and hoping that it wasn't yet another avionics issue. Then while they were replaying it and trying to analyse it, they went back to a live feed because they had heard there was another plane coming in low and I got to watch live as the second plane went in. At that point I knew it wasn't an accident and I spent the day watching various TVs and having serious conversations with friends late into the night.

We all knew it had changed the US forever but were a bit worried about how the current President would handle it. Sadly, he went on to blow off the massive goodwill that the USA had at that point and basically make the world into an even worse place, in my opinion.

I was retired from the USAF, at work designing electronics for industrial controls. No Radio or TV.
Co-worker came by my cube (Ya, Like Dilbert's) and said that a Plane hit the WTC.
I went to news on the Internet and saw the second plane hit live a bit later, then saw the towers fall.
Work stopped for the entire factory all day, everyone talking about what happened and what America would do.
I KNEW what we would do, just not Who was going to receive it yet, or If I would be recalled to Duty.
(Retired US Military are Retired Reserve for life, this group has never been called up, tho many have returned to duty voluntarily in wartime)
As President Bush later spoke, "disbelief, terrible sadness and a quiet, unyielding anger" Amen Sir.
I Was not recalled to Duty even tho I called in and reported, as I'm aging and none to healthy after a Career in the Service.
Desert Storm may have been a Turkey Shoot but it still left a lot of wear and tear on the Bod.
However, Should it happen again, I will again stand up and Volunteer.
I'm still an expert marksman, grew up hunting to eat and I maintain my proficiency with several weapons.
Msgt, USAF, Ret.

I was commuting. The talk radio show got interrupted by the news that a plane had crashed into the World Trade Center. I thought it was a Cessna or something small at first, but then as I arrived at my destination word came through that a second plane had hit the other building.

My dad was in New York at the time and I spent all morning worrying myself sick. Turns out he had dinner practically across the street from the Twin Towers and slept through the whole thing in a hotel room across the bay.

Its odd when ppl say that, the average non NY living person tends to think of Staten Island of JUST having the statue of liberty on it

Once you guys grow up, you will realise that letting go and forgiving are the only ways to truely be happy and enjoy whats left of your life.

um... just asking where ppl were when it happened... not wether or not they forgive.
Forgiveness is hard
Forgetting is something we should never do.

And I remember it being weird that there were no planes. We were not far outside of Salt Lake City, and right by an Air Force base.
One of the few times we went out for a break that day, we saw all the planes (we thought) from that AFB empty out and head east. Ive never seen that many planes in the air at once.

I do remember the fear I experienced for weeks/months afterward every time I heard a low flying plane.

The statue is on Liberty Island which a bit NE of Staten Island. Then again there are many islands in that area so its easy to get them all mixed up hehe. Still a lovely sight to see every time i go back to NY.

Not a problem. There are just some subjects where it really should be kept on topic.

Shortly afterwards a plant wide announcement went out that all non-essential personnel were being sent home. You see, I work at what is classified as a "strategic target of national importance". We stepped up the plant security, and everyone except the plant operators were pushed out the gates.

Yeah, most of the Pacific Northwest Region is a prime target area, due to everything we have here.

ok folks here are some guidelines for this thread.

In order for it to remain open, we all must keep on topic. What is the topic you say? Where were you that day 11yrs ago. Remembering is ok.

What will not be allowed is flame baiting and derogatory remarks with regard to:

1.religion - pro or con
2.morals - good or bad
3.nations - for or against

This is about remembering a tragic part of world history, and all good people working together to make sure it never happens again - anywhere..

You must remember, everyones experience was different for many reasons

Lets all remain respectful......please.

Thank you.

I'm sure not many people realize that out of all New York City, only the Bronx is part of mainland USA. The rest of it are islands. That's why you saw so many people walking home over bridges that day or going by ferry.

I was in school, 7th grade, English class, they brought in a television on a wheel cart and the neighboring class came in to watch and we all watched live as the 2nd tower went down. I didn't know what it was at first, so I remember joking around about how someone watched a little too much Die Hard 2 and then when I got home I realized the severity of the situation.

I got up, got on my usual train for my college commute, I stopped in Salem to buy some Manga, got to the campus to find the doors locked and a notice that classes were canceled for the day due to the attacks. (since the planes came from Logan airport, it was a reasonable precaution)
A friend told me that terrorists had attacked NYC, the trip home was packed with people, until I got home, I was convinced someone had just started WWIII.

THX Metro. Was just trying for a "where were you" thing not all the baggage. As someone else said; this is one of those events like the Kennedy assassination where people always remember where they were and the stories are interesting

I was in one of my History classes at FSU, professor turned a TV on and we watched as 2nd plane hit. After like 10 minnutes of watching he turned it off and said "Everyone go home." and walked out. I called my dad (he was in the Air Force stationed in Saudi Arabia) and asked him what was going on, he said he couldnt talk, but to go home and stay with mom. My mother was out running errands and didnt even know about it until she got home, we arrived about the same time and turned on the TV and watched all day. My Grandparents live on the bay and watched everything (including the first plane hit) from their backyard in New Jersey. Sad day for all really. My dad had to stay in Saudi for an additional 3 weeks, when he came back it was for like 2 weeks than off to the middle east again. Stayed for almost a yr than came home, then a month later left again for 7 months. When he came back this time he took retirement (he retired a Chief Master Sergeant). My brother joined the Air Force because of 9-11 (my dad being Military helped too), and my cousin joined the Marines like the week after 9-11. I was at FSU and made up excusses as to why I didnt join, but I had lots of friends and even classmates and professors that did go off to fight in the Middle East. I just didnt see myself being a soldier. My brother was a MP and is now a police officer, said if he had a choice he would have stayed home. Cousin is opposite, he wishes he was in combat every day. He is still active duty.

I was at work and had no TV access from there and all the newspaper websites got overloaded so my source became the Dumpshock forums (Shadowrun RPG) where one guy wrote almost realtime update posts about the situation - it was surreal.

No regular news services functioned but I got almost live info from an RPG forum...
