NO NO. Thats just what some in the media are saying and its shows how stupid they are. It was a planned orchistated attack. If you read some of what mittins has posted about it VR made the comment how the local police were oddly takeing pictures just prior to the murderings. Also some hours before al qaeda released a video promoting the attacks on americans in libia. On must not forget these animals are some of the best spin/PR groups in exestance.

So extremists are solely responsible for all the riots and embassy attacks occuring throughout the middle east? I'm not going to deny that the Benghazi attack wasn't, the sophistication of the attack itself is more than enough proof of Al Queda in my book. However, look up the Rushdie affair of 1989, or reactions to Newsweek in 2005, the backlash to Pope Benedict's speech or the Danish Cartoon in 2006, or the percieved slights by american troops in Afghanistan earlier this year. The muslim world has a tendency to react violently everytime something occurs that is percieved as criticism or insulting to Islam. Even if the film wasn't the direct cause of the embassy attacks, it was still a trigger.

It's all a game and everyone play it at the best of their amusement and while i never knew him nor personally nor ingame (aside the common name that repeat commonly on the opposite side) it's a pity to notice someone who have shared the same joy and fun in a game with you pass away
Fly Safe Vile Rat, my condolences to your family and for GoD's sake.. don't goon them up there

The internet is making the world a smaller place. A tragedy from foreigners from a far away country in another foreign country can suddenly mean that people you may have actually had contact with them or their friends.
And not only that - despite this, we know so little about each other, that we don't even what they are working on or for, what kind of dangers they may be exposed to ...

This whole discussion reminds me of the south park dam episode, everyone is looking for someone or something to blame, however in reality it is all a distraction. The people responsible are the ones the fired the RPG or whatever it was that killed the embassy staff. More importantly, incidents like these should cause the average US citizen to reflect on our country's current actions in the world. Are these police officers not representatives of the government we just spent a few billion dollars helping to install only months ago? Can this new government not protect noncombatant foreign nationals who happen to be there in the name of diplomacy, not violence? Is the devil we know (the former regime) better or worse than the devil we don't know (the current replacement)?
All in all it's depressing that individuals committed to peace through discussion were killed in such a violent manner.

That said, I'm reminded of the words of an old professor (an ethics instructor) when the space shuttle exploded and everyone was in shock.
"Big deal, they died. People die all the time in more tragic circumstances, while these people knew the risks involved in what they were undertaking". I'm sure that Sean Smith understood some of the risks that he was taking as well, but was willing to take them because he loved what he did.
Again, I'm not trying to minimize this fellows death, but it does need to be put in perspective. A personal tragedy for friends and family, perhaps a symbol to others of whats wrong in the world. They have my sympathy.
I'm also somewhat intrigued by the fact one of the first links by the OP was to the Mittanis website where he professed his shock, sadness and pain at losing a friend, all of which I'm sure were genuine and heart felt.
The thing is, that somewhere, someone incited these people to riot, encouraged them to undertake this action that resulted in these senseless deaths.

Not on the politics, not on the hair brained "ideas" on how to solve the world’s problems, not the simple minded explanations of the actions of extremists or zealots, but to simply offer condolences. Thank you
If everyone sticks to this simple request, I think it would show a lot of class, and would be appreciated.

Agree, while I am sure we all have opinions this ain't the thread for them.
I am really surprised by just how much this has saddened my heart. I think I will find myself stopping to think of him and his family left behind for many years to come. I can only hope that by sharing his families anguish we can make the devastation just a little tiny bit more bearable.
I hope to see many efforts to help ease their pain, that is the very least we can do for him.

God forbid Department of State relax the rules of engagement and let people actually carry real weaponry to defend themselves. I mean it might hurt feelings if Islamists got shot when they scaled the walls of the embassy to kill Americans.

Ask your self, what would you consider as counting as an extremist reaction to being criticised or insulted? Does violence and murder pop in to mind?
It doesn't matter which particular criticism or insult people want to call the "trigger." In my opinion its silly to call them triggers anyways, theres no justifiable reason to use the word, all it does is suggest that someone who made a critical statement or an insult is somehow responsible for how handfull of people out of 7 billion responded to it.
Some people just murdered some other people over what can be compared to a verbal argument, and not even necessarily a verbal argument with the people who are dead. They are responsible for their own actions and their choice to forego using equal force and instead use the extremely excessive.
The world is a poorer place for having lost more people to the silly mentality of an eye for an insult.

I too, am a service member in the US armed forces. This makes me sad to such an extreme on two fronts that I find it hard to play right now. I urge everyone among this great community, as small (or large?) as we are here in the Mechwarrior/Battletech universe to show nothing but respect and offer condolances to his family for such a tragedy. This man knew how to work a situation into any sort of an advantage, and as such was a highly skilled individual with the capability to turn entire situations in one's favor.
Sean "Vile Rat" Smith, you will be missed, my brother. The flame is alit in my window. If you ever need a home brother, you know you can come here.
On a seperate note Garth, would it be permissible to upgrade Vile Rat's account to Legendary status to give him recognition from the community at large for his sacrifice?
EDIT 1 2235 9/14: For those that had previously posted here in this thread, if you have posed any sort of negetive discussion related to politics, religion, etc., please show respect for Sean's family and remove the discussion.
