It actually was one of THE first assault 'Mechs out there, and packed a rather respectable close-combat arsenal- even if many heavies outgunned it at range, it could still dish out some firepower while closing and for an assault, was rather mobile. For it's speed, it was probably one of the best 3025-era assault 'Mechs built...though you see better, slower, and higher-tech ones show up rapidly in the post-3050 era.

Sadly, the really nice artwork is from the old Dougram anime series and slipped into the Unseen for quite a while- though I'd bet that Alex I could turn it into something not copyright-infringing yet completely incredible.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't believe Harmony Gold owns exclusive US distribution rights to either Fang of the Sun Dougram or Crusher Joe, so 'mechs like the Battlemaster, Locust, Shadow Hawk, Wolverine, Griffin, Thunderbolt, etc. don't have the legal issues associated with the Destroid/Zentraedi Pod/VF-1 Valkyrie derived designs from Macross.

To the best of my knowledge FASA/Catalyst have just kept them hidden as a precaution, not from any direct legal issue.

It has bad long range fighting capabilities, up close and in your face it is a beast, for the time frame in TT 6 medium lasers and an SRM-6 was a pretty darn good punch.

Yeah, I'm thinking, to reproduce the Battlemaster, you'd wind up with at least six torso energy hardpoints, one arm energy hardpoint, one torso missile hardpoint, and two arm ballistic hardpoints. It'd certainly be a versatile config in the mechlab.

At the risk of being kicked out of MWO, I liked the redesign better anyway.

For those who say the Battlemaster sucks I say it is difficult to find something in its weight that even comes close to its short range ability.

But we might get to ride this version. It isn't the same Battlemaster we fell for all those years ago, but it is a good replacement. At least to me.

i´d be fine with that one...if they put the armor back on it´s limbs...i mean, it is the internal structure that we see in arms, legs an hips, right? it´s a pic from the construction line, before the armor is put on it, right?

otherwise i missed the fact that battlemasters tend to become anorexic... :P

You might see it in Mechwarrior tactics, considering how they LOVE to butcher mech designs.

I'm, sorry, but we don't have rights for the design, so there's a really small chance of it appearing in MW:O.

Everything else is fine about it.

Have you seen the interior art for Catalyst's Classic Battletech 25th anniversary box set?

Old school artwork for some of the unseen, specificaly the Battlemaster appear. These are re-publishings of older art predating the settlement with Harmony Gold that created the unseen.

The Unseen were based off mecha designs from three sources.
Macross,Crusher Joe and Dougram.

The legal battles and out of court settlement were specifically in regards to Harmony Gold's claim to Macross properties and images and did not effect the Battlemaster,Griffin,Shadowhawk,Wolverine,Scorpion and Goliath mechs. Those were from Dougram and HG has zero rights to images or properties from the Dougram animae.

FASA pulled the images of all mechs they had licenced from a particular source to avoid possible legal issues this icluded the Crusher Joe and Dougram based designs.

So essentially if any unseen are going to appear it is more likely to see a Battlemaster or Shadowhawk and unlikely to ever see a Marauder or Warhammer since HG still retains the rights to those images and FASA was (to the best of my knowlege) never challenged by any property owner for images and use of Dougram mecha.

Not a specs person myself but I too recall TT gaming with the Battlemaster. Back then I was young and stupid (now I'm old and stupid) but I would redo my sheet with an AC-10 in place of the PPC iirc and simply imagine it as a hand held weapon. I hated having to keep up with heat. And I too would love to see this brought in to MWO. One can dream cant he? I just found the MWO game this past week and will be purchasing a FP soon. Wish I was rich and could do the $120 ... but for now I will have to live with $30. In place of the BM may I sugest taking a peak at the Catphract (sp?) . I am sure some of the folks better versed (haha) could say if perhaps this was a release to get around the Unseen legal issues of the BM as imo the Catphract looks very similar to the BM Hoping to try out a couple of the alt configs with the ACs :> Just soming about having someone aim a Gun at your head vs having a barrel shaped arm point at you always made me fear the BM more .

Just my 2c.
