No really, do it. Not on the forums. To yourself.

For instance, for the Locust:



Since you know you can't survive more than one hit,

• You don't want to ever be hit
  
• Mechs cannot shoot backwards
  
• You have high speed

So to optimise a locust, you need

• High speed
  
• Weapons with very high burst damage - SRMs, Large Pulse Lasers, Medium Lasers, NARC

You don't need:

• Damage per second, because most of the time you shouldn't be exposed firing
  
• Heat management, because if you can overheat, you're exposed for long enough to be oneshot

Your tactics:

• Run from cover to cover. It takes an elite pilot 0.5s to see you, aim, and for a projectile to hit you. If you can cross cover, fire and disappear in less than 0.5s, it's literally impossible for anyone to hit.
  
• Alpha hard and run. Never circle strafe, because any pilot worth his salt will kill you in two seconds.
  
• Use the R key and keep it for as long as possible. Fire only when enemy mechs are about to turn. Don't waste prime LRM spotting time on a mere 20 damage. You are invisible as long as nobody faces you.
  
• Never run into areas without exits in at least 4 directions. You have no way to predict where enemy mechs are, and you have to run 90 degrees away from them towards your team.
  
• Shoot an enemy after he alphas into your Assault/Heavy teammate. No player ever leaves weapons on reserve to deal with emergency locust situations.

Repeat the steps for any mech

• Play it
  
• ***** about it
  
• Nullify the situation in which said bitching happens
  
• Enjoy OP mech

In my defense a turret shot my back when I was in my Locust, but it was still pretty noob. =(









They have more damage, more armor and more range than you. They generate like double the heat and have a ~20% lower rate of fire after quirks, but by poking in and out of cover, you nullify both the heat and RoF advantages, making you lose every time.
