memes by definition do not contain any wording or imagery that requires knowledge of a specific scenario. in the frye example, there is nothing about the image or text that has anything to do with futurama, so, if one was living under a rock, and simply saw the image having never seen futurama, the image is still funny.

the humor of a meme comes from the humanity of it.
This is called a "Macro" because it summs up the human condition or some aspect of it in extreme brevity. The term Macro which games might know actually draws its source from the psychological condition which creates this. Your brain constantly creates macros, and macros are why standup comedians are funny when they are. the simple mention of (back to the frye example) not being able to differentiate the reason for somebody within sight range being in a wheel chair brings to the mind of the reader/viewer any number of things, such as perhaps an instance when they themselves had that problem.

which brings me back to the fact that memes are by default funny to a wide number of people (even gamer specific memes should have SOME redeeming value to onlookers of only modest gaming knowledge)

so im gonna go out on a limb here and say most of these are fail...

I dont write memes because i am legitimately not a very funny person with that kind of thing. so even the relative failings of those who submitted theirs beats mine.
