So .. just to break the wall a little:
I was running my CTF-3D with an AC20 and an AC10 for a while, couldn't really fit that back-up laser though. Joke build to be sure, but so very satisfying in the right matches.
If I redo that build, it gets a laser, and here's why:
Caustic valley, Conquest match. Total bloodfest, component destruction and death by attrition on both sides. At some point in the match I remember spotting a Cat with 4xlrm10 and take a few shots to try winging it a bit. I lose sight of him down a ridge and catch a higher priority threat bearing down on me, and then forget the cat completely. We get down to the last few players and the score is close. 600 or so to 550 or so. My shield arm is gone, and that torso side is critical. Rear armor on its last legs. 3 on my side, 2 on theirs. I run out of ammo at the 650 vs 600 or so mark and make a play for one of their control points, not far, but the only route over a pretty long stretch of open ground. Team chat is something about being out of ammo, from both the other players and they go down fast. It's just me and their last guy.
INCOMING MISSLES
That damn Cat. Shoulda stayed on him, I take a full volley to my rear armor and it goes critical. I know one more volley and I'm dead. Score is nearing the 700 range, but we're still ahead and there's too much gap. The counter is in our favor, if I live, we win. I wheel around to show him some armor (just in time to twist-scatter his next volley) and realize that I have almost full armor on my, otherwise useless gun arm. He's about 225m away and cover is too far, if I run for the control point he fires another volley of lrms at my back and I'm dead.
So I charge him, leading with my gun arm. I'm certain he knows I am out of shots, and he's at least acting like he's got missles left because he's trying his damnedest to take pot shots at me with this center torso MPLs while trying to outrun me and regain missle range. He's faster to be sure, but I'm doing my best to just hug him and twist to soak his shots. Most of the time I'm getting his cooldowns right, and we're pretty close to the caldera rim for a moment. He shuts down and I get behind him, always keeping that gun arm facing him. He's whittling it down, but not fast enough.
He powers back up, makes a break for the lake near the "middle of nowhere" base. I follow, thinking that he's trying to get range for missles again. Turns out he must have been rocking singles in his legs and was going for the heat reduction. 740 vs 720 something and my arm is now gone, still dancing around him. It's going to be close, so very very close ...

<Damn good Cat Player> has killed Bagheera.
So maybe not so much Good Guy (but damned if I didn't try). If I had tried to duck behind the hill in front of that lake it might have bought a few extra seconds and blocked the lock for his lrms, if he even had any at that point. Of course I couldn't out run him anyway, so either way showing him my back was suicide and lrms or no I wasn't making it to any control points on his watch.
Is there a Good Guy Bad Luck Brian?
P.S. To the folks on my team in that match, sorry guys, I tried. To the cat who got me and secured the win: o7.
