One of my favorite mechs back in the days of closed beta was the 'Old' Cat K2. 65 tons, but had 6 energy hardpoints instead of 4. I loaded that thing up with 6 Medium Pulse lasers, 2 Machine Guns, and as many heat sinks as that thing could carry and headed to town. This thing was fast enough and powerful enough to not only cut down light mechs with ease but could also go toe to toe (and beat) quite a few Atlases in it's time.

On top of all that it was just fun to pilot. I really felt like a mech pilot waltzing into battle and mixing it up in the heat of things. It was the perfect balance between speed, longevity, and firepower for me...

...Then it got Nerfed. Sure, later on the various changes would make the K2 something more than a ballistic platform but it just wasn't the same... I just wanted my old K2 Pulsekat back but I was resigned to never seeing anything quite like it again.

Then I started looking towards the Orion's release... which even in the words of the battle tech universe was 'a poor man's Atlas' and rightly so. The Atlas was my second favorite mech in closed beta next to my Pulsekat and I was looking forward to a heavy mech that could perform in a similar profile to the Atlas.

Then the quickdraw took us all by surprise...

Like many people looking forward to the Orion I was disappointed... but what can you do?

Then I spent some time in RemLab (because smurfy doesn't have any details yet) and looked up some alternate variants from Sarna that would likely end up in the mix... specifically the QKD-5A... and looked at the monster I just created...

It will have more speed, more armor, and far more maneuverability than my old K2 Pulsekat!



I really really hope the 5A variant is in the mix. If so... I'll be mixing it up again. It won't have machine guns but it will have Jump Jets!
