Tried Hawken, uninstalled on the same week.
It can't match the speed and twitchiness of Metal Rage Online.
But Im too slow to compete with young twitch shooter now.

But Hawken isn't in the battletech universe, so it doesn't interest a large portion of the player base here. Also its CoD for mecha nerds.
For the first time, I've become truly interested in Hawken.

How can you tell friend from foe when everyone is in a nondescribed, chibi-squished-brown mech?

And whats with the "YEAAH!" sound byte?

.. huh, can you pilot the super giant mecha at the end?

Just can't do it. Not really looking for a game I just want some battletech. After mwo closes up I'm probably just going to go back to Megamek.

Hawken's customization is skum, and I can't shake the feeling I'm in a weird, futuristic Call of Duty game whenever I try to play it. I will agree with you that it feels like a complete game, but that's not a compliment, because despite its polish, the experience feels pretty shallow.

Unlike Mechwarrior Online.

Unlike MWO thought less customisation = greater balance.

Face it: Customisation has nothing but hurt this game in the long run, its the source of all the balancing issues this game has. Instead of being able to have a few good but rare guns the Devs suddenly have to balance every single weapon to make it not OP when boated.

Also it totaly invalidates mechs like the hunchback or the awesome. Why should i take a Hunchback for an AC 20 if i can just use the shadowhawk instead who has much better hitboxes?

Theres a reason the hunchback has that huge side torso and thats because AC 20s are friggin huge, but only the hunchback is punished by ****** hitboxes.

If they would just use stockbuilds with 2 x ammo and 2 x armor we wouldnt have alot of problems we have now.

What about MW:T?

I never did look into megamek all that much... feel free to enlighten me on every little detail of it, including whether everything is automated, the ease of doing multiplayer online with it, etc.

.

You tell friend or foe from the colour of the player's name floating on top the robot, green for friendly and red for enemy.
Or just shot anything that is facing you, since there is no friendly fire.

The actual game have no music, expect the lobby and Counter Strike styled voice command.
That video is a promo trailer.

The game have PvP and PvE modes.
That giant robot thing is the A.I. for the Attack/Defend mode, attacker have to defend the walker until it reach the enemy base. Defenders have to destroy the walker before it reach their base. For obviously reason, attacker team often wins.

Im also playing Mobile Suit Gundam Online on and off.

Love the Commander mode and battlefield objectives, environment also have an effect on your MS's movement and weapons.
But with the crafting and weapon refine system, you get 1hitKO very often from player who spend Cash or have time to farm the game.

Tried Hawken more than once.
I don't judge how good the game is (balance, lobby, game modes) but i don't think it's an alternative to MWO.
Gameplay is quite different and overall the only thing they share is piloting robots.

Hawken is good made but its more like a FPS with a mech look, for me is the same stuff as always.
MWO is horribly made but it is still a simulator, with the essence of the old mechwarriors.

I got bored of Hawken, still playing MWO.

Yuck...all those Hawken, Gundam, and metal rage look like some 1st generation console games.

I played Hawken when it first hit...nothing to compare to MWO. More of a FPS than a Mech game.

Hawken isn't a bad game. It's just not what I want in a mech game.

Hawken is pretty polished indeed, but it is a completely different game.
Hawken is a fast paced FPS shooter like any other, but with mecha, with respawn, fast jumpjets etc.

Just run,gun and jump and repeat...if you like such games you can also play CoD, Battlefield, Counterstrike.
All good games, but still not a teambased mech game like MW:O, with great customizations, and more teambased tactics.

I wish people could name another game which is comparable to MW:O so we can really compare the games and gameplay, and not only the developer/development process :)

Hawken could be worse. The problem is that it isn't better than MWO, it isn't battletech, it isn't a sim, and I only have time for one giant stompy space robots game.

What balance issues? Biggest imbalance I see nowadays is team composition, not weapons. SRM's are weak as of time of writing, and small lasers could probably use some love, but on the whole the game's well balanced, and has shown continual improvement. Do you honestly believe it's better to simply forego customization because it takes time to balance? If you do, then you'd probably enjoy Hawken. Or better yet, go back to Unreal Tournament and play Instagib matches. You don't even have to choose a gun!

I'd also like to point out that Hunchbacks are the 'mechs I do best in, and it blows my mind that you actually think the Shadow Hawk has a better profile. But here's the rub: we're both right. You're confusing your favorite 'mech with the best 'mech. You can't get the Hunchback to work? Feel like that hunch is a liability? That's perfectly okay, but you being {Scrap} at some 'mechs and awesome with others is not an indicator of the 'mech's value for anyone but yourself.
