There are several planned mechs that will act as Direct-fire-support. The CPLT-K2 variant is an option, as well as the Jagermech. Pretty much any mech can be outfitted as a sniper role with long range weapons like a Gauss Rifle or ERPPCs.

Greyrook, you might want to edit your post, as you are not in the Beta forums!

As for the answer to the question:
You can make any mech into a sniper! Some way or the other.

Actually, The loadouts and customization options of most mechs are already known from tabletop values, so really there's nothing to hide about what he said.

You are late to the party. :P
He wrote a few things about how he customized his mech in the beta. Now it is all fine!

Great, one less worry! :D
Good thing that I always give a few minutes before I start reporting. Saved me and the mods some trouble.

The 8Q variant of the Awesome is pretty much a direct-fire support mech, You have a ton of armor, but your weapons are geared primarily for long range engagements.

Mechwarrior is a bit less about 'which mechs are for what role', instead it's a matter of 'which equipment fits while role, and then which mechs can fit that equipment?'

The classic sniping weapon in BT/MW is the Gauss rifle, which can be mounted on a wide range of mechs, whoever has a ballistic hardpoint. Some mechs may even mount more than one (such as the K2, Cataphract, Jagermech) which are all Heavy mechs and can (barely) support the tonnage required for two gauss rifles.

PPC and ERPPC are energy-based long range weapons. They can be mounted on... pretty much almost every mech in the entire franchise, to varying degrees of effectiveness.

Right away, if you look at some of the artwork, you'll notice the Awesome 8Q and Catapult K2. If you scoot on over to sarna.net , you can look up these two variants' default weapon loadout. The Awesome comes with 3 ppcs and the cat with 2. PPCs and Gauss are the go-to sniper weapons in MechWarrior.

Of course, with the 'mechlab, you can fine tune any mech of your choosing to be a sniper in one form or another. Just depends on your playstyle and weapons of choice, really.

Hopes that answers your question!

nice thing about this game is, there is not THE mech for THIS role... given different variants, there are many possibilities for each mech... a variety that many mmo´s try to find, but ever fail :P

Thanks all. Good to hear its not about one type, but about the ability to customize.
