Hello all.

One topic which hasn’t been discussed – as far as I can see; and if it was, then my apologies – is the navigational means we’ll have at our disposal, namely the magnetic compass.

In previous games, especially MekTek’s MW4: Merc online, that aspect always was a pain for me because it was almost unusable.

We’ve all had our compasses on the HUD but unless your Lance/Star was really close by any indication as to the course or bearing were useless.

Why?

Because your Mech was the magnetic North (the center of travelling). So if your teammate was at your 5 o’clock for instance with some 2-3000 meters distance and with his back at you and he radioed in that he’d plot a 090 course you had NO IDEA whatsoever which direction that was!

Probably we’ll get minimaps divided in square grids we could use (A1, B5 and so forth) but what I suggest and hope for is that our compasses (for all Mechs in any given mission) will be attuned to the magnetic North (north of each map in this case) in the very same way real ones of ships or submarines are and that our movements are based on inertial navigation.

So when I’ll say I’m heading on 090 and you’ll see on the minimap that my bearing is 180 (right behind you no matter which direction I'm facing) you’ll know that I’ll move on a north-eastern path and will end at you 3 o'clock position on your right.

Any thoughts?

Thanks.
