Anything we can't access at launch should be things announced and delivered post-launch whether you pay with c-bills, or real money. It would make sense to have some mechs be universal and several specific to certain houses/factions but I don't know if that's in the best interest of the game in terms of playability. A salvage system might be nice for the victors, especially when the clans comes streaming in from the periphery. I know I'd like to get my hands on a Vulture or a Thor.


Obviously they aren't considering a salvage system so far, but in regards to the clans I think they should include clan kill points or match points. You accumulate them and trade them in for clan gear that HAS ITEM DECAY. It will eventually break and be gone for good.

I have been reading FAQ’s and dev posts and I think you will earn C-bills with which you can upgrade your mech and also buy new mechs. You will also earn loyalty points to get RARE items skins upgrades ect. There is also XP used to get modules (maybe slight benefits such as slightly better accuracy with LRM’s or more effective ECM? Just a guess.) They specifically said money can’t buy XP. I doubt it will buy LP either but it can probably buy C-bills. So money can be used to buy mechs that you would otherwise have to “grind” to get.

So would that make every mech in the game available for “free” on day one? I suspect so. But only if you have the C-bills for it. So this kinda depends on how many C-bills we start with. I would also bet it will be enough for an unmodified medium mech. Middle of the road no one is pissed about having it as their first mech. However this is PURE SPECULATION based on the FAQ’s and interviews.

By the way giving anyone an atlas for free just to eliminate the idea that heavier is better is stupid. The atlas is obviously more desirable to a lot of people and there for WORTH MORE. How the heck is piranha going to make any money if the cool stuff is all free? You are either going to have to WORK FOR IT or PAY FOR IT!

Voted yes; I think that you should have some sort of "in training" period though. And suffer penalties if you aren't proficient with a mech. But I have no idea how that would be implemented. :P

I just have a feeling that everything will work out though. I noticed in a interview vid about the mechbay, that pretty much everything in mechbay costs money, ammunition, weapons, the mech, repairs, components, etc.

I'd rather the devs not force segregated content on me. If you feel you should have to play X hours or do X jumping jacks before you can buy the chassis you want, I simply ask you put yourself on the honor system and hold yourself to it.

For me, as long as I have the money, the market should ALWAYS have the product available.

I'm fine with the market showing product rarity by having different times through the year where product prices on rare equipment/chassis become more expensive, but never deny me the ability to get it without just shelling out more c-bills.

Something you will not find in the blogs or FAQ is comments make by Garth, Paul, and other Devs scattered through out the forums. The feeling of Garth, that I agree with, is that the easier mechs for people to start out with will be assaults, due to the heavier armor where they can survive mistakes that lighter mechs couldn't survive.

Something the OP and yourself have missed out on is that now there is no way to tell who is experienced or not with the base mechs. The Devs have always said 'Chassies', not mechs will be avaible, thus it is safe to say that the base mech of the class will be avaible, but the grind will be to unlock the variants.

As for making money, I have asked the same question on a different thread. The thought is skins, mechbays, select weapons, and tech could all make money for Piranha. Things like that can create micro transactions. There is also the possibility of a monthly subscription option. What it might give is unknown, maybe a boost in C-Bills per battle and experience for unlocking variants. I personally could see something akin to Turbine points from Dungeons and Dragons Online and Lord of the Rings Online, which are both free games and had a huge boost when they went free to play.

Well i think part of the problem is, we should think ahead. Its not like the game is going to release with 12 mechs and then they're done making mechs. They're probably going to gradually inject the new battlemechs into the game for us to use. Thus widening the array of toys we get to play with.
