I think its a download.

But It would be nice to see a box, or maybe on the Disc that comes with a lot of the computer or gaming mags.

Just yesterday, one of the developers confirmed that an exclusive MWO joystick would be made (I don't recall the thread, though). I would hope that this joystick would be part of some box set, perhaps with a figurine or map of the Inner Sphere included. That would be awesome.

I think this game is ripe for a download-only format. A joystick has to be created as a physical object, but to save on production costs, we're just going to see downloads.

I'm good with either option. I am hoping for a boxed set though, with some nice swag.

I dislike downloading games, but you gotta roll with what they throw.

That's a false presumption, because there are several f2p games available through steam right now, including Spiral Knights, Team Fortress 2, and more.

... Fallen Earth... Star Trek Online.... Realm of the Mad King....

I hope Steam is an option at least.

Most likely a download only, as it costs quite the sum to get millions of copies made for box sets.

Really? Just skipped over the FAQ and came straight here and posted... that? Do you understand what a FREE TO PLAY game is, right?

IGP and Piranha would be /retarded/ to spend the money on a disc, spend the money creating a box for it, pay for the shipping and handling of said box to various retailers, paying said retailers and jumping through hoops for said retailers to put said box shelves, much less design and management that all went into said process. Even if it costs them a buck to do this, it is being sold for 10 bucks, because they then have to try to re-coup their money and the retailers get their cut... yup, they effectively get paid twice, specially if IGP/Piranha doesn't want their games in a bad location so it is easier for you to find.

All of that money that would normally be spent on that is going straight into the game to make it better. Trust me, that is alot of money.

If /anything/ like that exists, it will be through another manufacturer that is already jumping through said hoops and already doing the effort. Heck, alot of joystick and various video card makers already give out discs with a ton of free games 'to better use and display' their products, and including a MWO installer program would take no space what-so-ever on a disc with 10 other games on it...almost to the point of being wasteful if it was by itself. The Installer isn't the game, by the way. The same amount of time it takes you to install the game is the same amount of time it does for me, after the 30 seconds it took me to down load it.

I was thinking about this earlier today. I don't think Piranha will want to make the one-time investment to bring a DVD version to "Gold" status and print/clone a bunch of them when they are going to be issuing continuous game updates from a central server anyway. It makes more sense for them to also host the initial asset download (or share the responsibility with Steam, Direct2Drive etc.) However, depending on how much graphical content is in the game it could mean the initial download/installation could be quite large, so it would be nice to get it on a DVD or thumb drive to save time andbandwidth. But this is not a realistic alternative - even if no money was spent on a print run of DVDs, there would not be any staff to maintain a distribution network for barebones install media, even if the player fronted the cost. The staff at PGI will be too focused on smoothing out the launch. So it would seem that the content will be all-digital.

I expecting no more than a download at release. Though, maybe we'll see a "special edition" on shelves one day, like LOTRO's recent Mithril edition.
