Here's the Tom's Hardware article, and here's AnandTech's. I hope nVidia comes out with a formidable product within the 7870's price point as well. We all need the best hardware we can afford for this awesome game!

The results in the Crysis 2 tests show that the current nVidia cards are still competitive with the 7870/50. This could mean that the Kepler cards might possibly widen the lead even further. In that case, I'd go for nVidia, since it is for the sake of MWO (it runs on CryENGINE 3, after all).

Today’s story is going to be a little different than what you’ve seen from us in the past. The HD 7850 that AMD sent our US office was so unreliable that it wasn’t usable in a vast number of benchmarks. More on that when we break into the individual tests. AMD wasn’t able to get us a working replacement, so much of our performance data comes from Tom’s Hardware DE by way of Igor Wallosek. The result is that we have two different test systems.

Ruh roh, add to that the impression from the previous page

So, to be clear, using the exact same 8.95.5 driver at its default settings, the Radeon HD 7800s deliver blurrier textures than the HD 6900s

Not looking good for the 7800's

Edit: Finished reading the entire thing.

Summed up again great power consumption and heat from the AMD Cards.

The 7870 looks like it could be a great card depending of its retail pricing - A little disapointed the 6900 series currently produces better image quality with AA

The 7850 at the moment looks total junk, in almost all of those benchmarks it falls behind the 570, and in some the 560TI as well, also the fact both labs reported two different 7850's were totally unstable does not bode well.

Kepler will be indeed interesting, if Nvidia have it right this time around( and that is a huge if), AMD cards may be a hard sell this year.

I was also turned off by the fact that Pitcairn seems to have technical problems (particuarly the 7850), and these don't appear in Tahiti. I'm aiming for the 7870, though. I'm hoping the actual cards to be released at the end of the month won't have these annoying issues. Based on the article, the HD 7870's performance is comparable to the GTX 580, and it's about a hundred or so dollars cheaper. I'm liking that!

Since AMD released their 7xxx series earlier, they'll probably be able to do a few price cuts once Kepler comes out. I'm actually holding off any hardware upgrades until MWO hits Open Beta. That's when I'll make my final decision, and by that time, I'm hoping Kepler will be out (and damn competitive price and performance-wise) so I have a lot more choices.

You don't want a 7970 card? Too expensive?

I'm looking to upgrade as well. Did you notice the nVIDIA logo at the end of the trailer? I hope that doesn't mean there won't be Eyefinity support.

Interesting how the Toms Hardware articles noted strangeness and at the same time, the Anandtech article covering the cards mentioned no such oddities. 2 Bad Samples or Anandtech just happened to pick benchmarks that didn't cause the cards to go haywire. We may never know.

Games wise, they are using the same ones. IF you actually read the review, the 7850's were locking up crashing etc. That's bad cards.
If your trying to imply that Toms Hardware is out to get AMD, don't you think they would have mocked up tests that do not show the 7870 in such a good light?

Even anandtech in the final review is not complimentary towards the 7850.

the 7870 looks very nice. I want to see some overclocking benches, that should push it above a reference 580.

Wasn't defending the 7850 nor was I saying Toms Hardware was out to get AMD. And there are slight variations between the games the two reviewers used. In any case, I've been running AMD/ATI cards for the last forever, as well as running an AMD processors, so I have nothing against the company. Also I love Toms Hardware, I was merely commenting how different reviewers can have very different experiences.

Case in point, awhile back, ASUS released their shiny 890FX motherboard, the Crosshair IV Formula. By all accounts it was an amazing motherboard, but a couple reviewers (and several customers, sadly including myself) ended up with a faulty model in that the screws holding down the heatsink to the northbridge were a bit too long and thus there wasn't enough contact to keep the heatsink flush. Therefore, overheating, yay.

tl;dr- Sometimes a bad device gets sent out.
