I am a huge Battletech guy: I loved the books and the games, from MechCommander to Mechwarrior IV Mercs and everything in between.
To those in the beta who purchased their way in: is it worth it? Im not talking about the expensive packages, but to frame the question a bit better, is this worth its weight in gold (i.e. would my $35 be better spent on another full release game on steam, etc)?

I had this debate going on in my head earlier this summer and settled on a conclusion. The factors for my decision were:
1) How much was I going to play this game?
2) How much did I think I was willing to pay for this game?
3) What would price x get me vs price y (i.e. what level of Founders would I choose)?
In the end I settled on the Elite package for a few reasons. First of all the price ($60) is just on par with typical full release titles nowadays. Secondly I found that the Elite package was the best "bang for your buck" because you get $80 of MC, a Founder's Mech and 60 days of Premium status (+50% CBill earnings). What attracted me was more the first two points. You spend $60, but get >$80 worth of stuff, and at only the price commitment of a typical big name game. NDA restricting, but $80 of MC is quite a few 'Mechs right now so it lets you start off out of the gate with a couple of toys to play around with. The Founders mechs are also a good thing to start with, since they give you a +25% C Bill earning/round you play in that 'Mech. I personally chose the Atlas simply because it is the most expensive which means I can save up for smaller stuff faster, and have an assault 'Mech ready to go from Day 1.
So whenever people ask the question, I typically respond with the answer that yes, it is worth it if you get the package you think you want the most, although I recommend Elite since you don't have to drop $120 on it.

I've gotten more time out of MWO through founders played than I have through some $60 games I've bought, so time wise, its worth it.You just need to keep in mind that the game at the moment is in closed beta, and a lot of the promised features are coming soon (hopefully).
Still, I have fun when I play it, normally an hour or two a night.
Best value is the $60 founders pack.

I am still thoroughly satisfied with my Founder pack purchase. The $115 of value of $60 was an excellent sale, and I plan to make it worth every penny.

The sixty dollar founder pack is probably the best financial value. The thirty dollar pack is a little skimpy on premium time and the mech really can help. I think the 120 level is more of a collector's edition and I had no interest.
I think the MC prices are a little overpriced, frankly; so I would suggest to anyone thinking they WILL spend money later to consider a founder pack and get more for less.

Its worth is just for the Founder's Mechs alone. Make sure you at least buy the $60 package so you can have at least 1 mech, but splurge for the $120.00 package if you can afford it and get all 4 ftw.

Yea, I consider the $120 level as more of an investment/donation into the game, because it has a hell of a lot of potential, and I want to see it done. I only use 1, MAYBE 2, of the founders mechs due to personal preferences, and those are really the only boost over the $60 level.

I think it is worth it. My view comes heavily from an entry level developers view and more towards the furthering development funding as well as having some cool mech's to roll around with so i don't have to start over with each new patch as development continues.
Some things that i also like to consider when spending money on games that are in this stage of development is that the closed beta variant of the game is typically far from the actual build of the game although im sure it's not far off from it in this case. It is a "closed beta", the game is still full of all kinds of bugs and problems, i am not paying for a complete game yet and the systems that implement things that you pay for may not be fully fleshed out and implemented and may not be for a while depending on how development progresses, so it may or may not be worth the price, especially when things like premium accounts are taken into consideration when the things you earn from having them really doesn't matter until the game is fully released. Great game so far though in my opinion and im looking forward to seeing continued progress on the game.

It's not about Founders versus the free to play, is it? It's about limiting the range of hitting power the mechs have in a game. So long as players are willing to pay for rapid progress then they should not expect to go on a killing spree against players who have not the money to keep up in the arms race. Seriously, $60 packs and $120?? (SilentWolf) That is another world for a lot of people.
It's silly to ask Founders not to participate in a thread. The developers probably want all opinions and it's silly to say that Founders are more into the game than other players (Wankerstein Clapsaddie).
My guess is that when the game goes live, the Founders will have their money to spend again on new mechs, while the ftp players will lose their mechs.
