I looked all over (in other words, I was lazy and hit up Google...) and could not find an Atlas facepalming. Evidently they only facepalm in one way:
By planting a fist in another mech's face!

The more you go to one side or the other you look what is up for grabs, how will this affect the quality of the content? How will this benefit the game itself?
What are the rules?
there are only certain mechs that make sense, but how they should look is the creative part. What about community polls over community designs for these mechs?
If there is an artist employed to do so, they can take those designs and rework them.
I am reminded of an episode[17:00] of reading rainbow. The maker of a mary go round had children design the animals for the ride.
But perhaps at a point, if the dev team moves on any artists and 3d moders can submit ideas and polls can run to add that content. This is the other side of the gradient and the choice is how self perpetuating do you want to let this become and what would be the reason not to do so or wait for 'x' amount of time to start. Now this is all horribly early do any of this before the game can even be released, yet it is NOT too early to think about it and see how it might play into things, and how could we allow for it.
I really don't care how crazy, or pompous I sound. I am asking these question and I am getting answers and I am going to share it.
I will say the community aspect of this looks to be wonderfully and inherently flexible(as far as role playing your pilot) ex: Faction ranks, player made Merc Corps, ect. So we are good there far as I can see now.
And for anyone who invalidates my argument for citing a children's show as inspiration I'll just have to name an Assault Mech the "Reading Rainbow" and make you taste the rainbow.
Dinosaurs
OH I hope you understand , I want them.

Now games like this usually have a lifetime then they are over and if thats the case here, and people lose interest in the natural course of a game oh well. Now, it would be unfortunate if interest subsided in MWO because we were unwilling to progress. all of your efforts to bring together and create this world and community, why not keep it moving forward with community empowerment, when its ready. If you let it, this could be your legacy. It will always be something you can be proud of, but ow far are you willing to go down the rabbit whole. We're all here and 'accounted'(lol) for. You are the artists bringing this together and together this could be fun.
Good Morning. Day 2 of our discussion. I'd like to thank everyone for pondering these things with me. I have some more pics to present so lets continue.
below I have the fallowing diagram, please try to keep up.
There is currently no way to get content from the community in the game. The quality standard is being set by the developers. Now I say no way but really even in this stage there are ways, they come to the forums they've hosted for us, ask polls, listen to our discussions, like this one, and ideas osmosis there way into the product. This is a great place to be prerelease.
Eventually it would be good, and this is what we are discussing as I see it, for some system for community content to be conceived and on some introductory scale implemented.
Let me pause to state and restate why you want user content. Empowering your game community is the best 1:1 to give them what they want.

There is no reason, quite the contrary infact!- Why this cant be profitable. Piranha is creating 100% content right now, creating the game. If at some point the start to allow art contest for new design, make some introductory ways for fan content, then you are setting the groundwork for a self perpetuating experience.
Soon you have community members making really good stuff. Maybe they can get some portion of profit if we buy there mech. Mech being an example, perhaps a map, or something to do with the MWO meta game. YOu still for a long part of this process need the hired Piranha artist to touch things up but eventually the skill level of the community will rise. As far as profit goes there's no worry cause you made all base content and would receive profit. Though, maybe as the community wanted to replace things over time that would happen but it would be good for the health of the game.
As it goes forward perpetuating mech warrior online could look just like this:
Content made by and for the community, a growing dynamic, evolving experience. This could happen. If you let it. At what ever pace it takes to make sure its profitable, logical, and fun for everyone. BattleTech is a fantasy that has been finely crafted and toned by many authors and artist and your efforts could become a legacy if you allow it.
I've said what I needed to say, thank you for listening, popping in, looking at my little diagrams, you've been great.
Peace
