I would hope that a cold planet/cold battlefield would let me overclock my mech. likewise I'd expect a desert planet to make players consider weapon loadouts that generate little heat.

Cold: More efficient heatsinks
Hot: Less efficient heatsinks
Thick fog: Missiles have poor tracking
Dust storm: Ballistics jam frequently
Heavy rain: Lasers are less acccurate (think about rainbows/Pink Floyd, you'll see what I'm saying)

Dust storm: Ballistics jam frequently?
We have weapons today that don't jam very often at all, even in the harshest conditions. Two that spring to mind are the AK47 and the H&KG36

Heavy rain: Lasers are less accurate?

EDIT: I just got the chance to try the laser theory.... It's raining quite hard right now so I just aimed a targeting laser down my garden, 75 ft, and the rain made no difference at all. Myth BUSTED!

Here is something else I haven't heard mention, but I have seen used on the (original) TT version of BattleTech: standing water, such as lakes and ponds. If we stand our Mech in one, is it going to help dissipate heat? Possibly with steam rising up from the feet/legs of the Mech?

Yes it does help, and it was used in MW3.

I sure hope so!

Yes to a certain degree. At the very least, heat levels should be affected.

Please let us fight on low-gravity planets. I wanna pull off stuff like this:

(for reference, that's from MekTek's AssaultTech1 open beta)

yes but make it simple for a start.
Like storms affecting visibility, mechs with HS in their legs can take advantage of water terrain etc.

Most military units have appropriate equipment based on the environment. Tanks operating in the middle east carry extra filtration gear to deal with the blowing sand as well as maintenance schedules are changed to ensure that damage from the environment is mitigated.

That being said, a wind blown planet with a lot of particulates in the air would play absolute hell with any kind of laser.

A mech operating in vacuum would also face some heat disappation issues as well.

Like someone else said, yeah it could affect it, but lets keep it sensible.

I voted yes.

Mostly because you should be able to look at a mission before entering it and seeing what kind of planet environment you might be getting into. If it's a desert, plan for hot. If it's a snow covered rock, plan for cold. If it's foggy, plan on missiles/ballistics. If it's clear as day with nothing big, use your best mech.

Mission planning should always be a part of the MW world.

Only to a sensible degree. There has to be a point where you draw the line or game will stop being fun.

I agree. Its a great idea within reason, its still a game. Dunno how I feel about more jamming (unless jams can be cleared in-mission, as opposed to making weapon useless for entire mission, in which case that would prove interesting!).

The weight-bog issue sounds nightmarish for players and devs.

As long as it let's me play with what ever weapons I want, not restrict me from using my AC/20s on other worlds. Like others have already said, it would just make certain weapons opperate on a less-than-peak performance in the planet's weather.
