Has there been any talk about model/art changes and customization? One thing that bugged me about the other mech games i have played is no mater what you loaded up, it didn't mater if i used a lazer, cannon, missle.. it all had the same look.
If i have a missle launcher on my left arm/hand, I want it to look way different than if i have an AC, or a lazer.
My chest mounted lazer should look different than a pair of AC's, or a shoulder mounted SRM.
To me this should be as big of a part of customization as letting us customize. I want my mech to look different when i swap something. And i could see wanting to use certain load outs just cause it looks soo cool.
It also could be cool to use that info as part of your tactical. Knowing load outs from range could lead to different tactics which would add to gameplay as well.
Also has there been any more word about player made skins/textures/models being allowed into the game?

Mech customization and art changes?

Yes mechs will look diffrent per various variants and probably customization. This is 2012, not 2001. MechWarrior Living Legends has been able to do this and it is a mod, so guys with the full code access I am sure can do it even more nicely. They actually featured this in the teaser trailer. As the mech you see across the bay is a Hunchback -4P, known as a Swayback, 6 medium lasers instead of the AC20.
Custom skins and such no word yet. Though i would guess paint schemes will be available, custom decals and textures no idea yet,.

Hope so. That was one thing i didn't like about MW4. then again, the guy above did mentino the year difference.
And skin customization, it would make sense, as it has been done before in other games, and it seems to be an aspect the community wants in this game.

I'm iffy about how much player-made stuff in-game (ref "TTP"), but I'd certainly like distinct weapons on the different variants of each 'mech.

I too don't want to see much user-generated content. Don't really feel like shooting at enemy Mechs covered in crudely drawn penises. I would however love to see an array of custom skins available for each Mech, various camouflage patterns and colour combinations as well as Faction and Merc skins.
The one place I'd like to see custom content is in creating personal and corp insignias.. BF3 offers a pretty awesome tool for creating custom platoon insignias using hundreds of custom shapes, rather than users' hand-drawn art, using their BattleLog thing. Ideally every Mech would have locations on it (arms, legs, chest) where these icons are placed (some for personal logo, others for corp logo). Combined with custom skins this would be amazing! Even if I have to pay a few bucks for it. I probably would.

The simple solution is the one that Valve came up with: Make players pay $5 to input a custom decal, and take it away without giving them their money back if it breaks the code of conduct.
As much as using combinations of pre-created shapes and insignias is cool, it's a hell of a lot more time-consuming and harder to work with than simply going into Photoshop for 20 minutes.
