Just wanted to note this before we get a bit carried away, I've heard plenty of people suggest that, since it's likely we'll be seeing some screenshots or videos from the Swayback's point of view, that we'll be getting hot drops in MWO. I, unfortunately, do not think this will be the case, not as a minimum viable product anyway.

I refer to Paul's comments,

Quote

It is NOT a rendered game trailer. That's NOT what Bryan said. Bryan said that some of those assets were built purposely for this trailer and will not be seen in game. By assets, we mean modeled geometry.

Which basically means the Leopard interior will be rejigged into, what I would assume to mean, an ingame MechLab of sorts. What it also implies, is that there's less of a chance we'll be seeing hot drops in the game, more likely I would imagine we would start out on the battlefield already, possibly in a hangar or just outside a drop ship, and power up then.

I would love to see hot drops however once the game is mature and we do conquest or attack/defend scenarios. But I think we might need to temper our expectations that we'll be seeing each other and hot dropping into battle. I don't think we're quite there yet.

There is also a quote from the devs saying

I wish you guys knew how close to actual gameplay you really are seeing in this trailer.

Or something along these lines.

That's right Spooky, however the quote I have from Paul is lifted directly from that thread, and the full quote includes his comments regarding what he meant by "so close to gameplay".

I agree that we can't say for sure that hot drops are in, but this logic goes both ways: nowhere does it say it isn't. Of course some of the setpieces are not in-game assets, but we'll just have to see what they reveal to us in the future!

Yes, but without further information, you cannot know whether Hot Drops will be in the game in any way, which assets are only visible in the trailer, etc.

I personally hate the atlas. I like the high speed assults or the major firepower heavys. Hopefully they will put one of them in.
I would settle for a battlemaster, warhammer, or even a maruder would do. And of course I like the timber wolf and dire wolf but they are later.

Oh, yes I agree, I'd just hate for people to start ranting why there's no hot dropping when it was in the trailer(s).

I honestly see no reason not to have hot drops in game. It adds a tactical layer that can be used it's risk reward so can be balanced. From a model point of view, it would taken them all of an afternoon to produce an in game harness to drop from.

This reboot is pushing the mech games and what you should be saying is 'why not' not 'this wont happen'

They are doing ungodly well with the game so far as i can see. The only thing i ask of Piranha is that they never ever ever sell to EA.

Please, let us not even CONSIDER this. No one wants to see another BioWare.

so you want chargers and...turrets? "high speed" and "assult" are mutually exclusive.

:) The Hot Drop could be nothing more than a short video sequence played after I/we hit the GO button from the Instances Ready Room.

Also, like ALL Military organizations, they don't simply throw perfectly good soldiers out of Airplanes/Dropships without providing them a means to land safely if they haven't supplied that means themselves. LOL!

Besides, some one has to get to the Landing Zone first to secure it right. Drop me in Boss...

cutscene of hotdrop --> mission starts with you on the ground. nothing wrong with that IMO. hopefully somewhere in there someone will be able to make a choice as to where we land.

If anything, hot drops/ chosen drop zones would more likely be for merc units where the commander can chose where to deploy. I doubt that in faction play this will be the case as there is no official overall commander.

If we can't do hot drops how will we reenact the invasion of normandy with mechs?
