I always thought it would be neat for those who wish to have an actual Visual communication for Mechwarriors. More of a immersion type thing for those who wish. When selecting who to communicate with or who ever toggles on voice at that moment a little screen pops up with the users face.

Maybe something that can only come into play between Friended pilots.

I dunno, transmitting video like that would take up bandwidth that could be going towards the game.

Plus, I don't really want to be staring at a pasty-faced 40 year old hunched over in the dark as he/she tries to order me around or whatever.

This is the internet. You know where this is going: a visual of Commander Dick A. Balls set to yaxty sax refuses to stop transmitting.

Or a pimply-faced kid with cheetos crumbs on his lips. :)

It would be cool if everyone could be mature about it. However we all know that won't happen.

It would be cool if Lance Mates (with web cams) had the ability to send each other a 5 sec. wmv clip whose location on the HDD could be assigned an in Cockpit switch, that when flicked (keystroke) would play the clip in a Looped sequence. Just a shoulders up shot. That way each pilot could put on some Head Gear etc that would help distinguish them for their brethren during Battle.

Seeing wing man, Corporal "Nubbin's" Jones in the upper corner of one of the many screen in the cockpit, added to voice Comms, would be hilarious. :)

It all runs Local PC wise. No bandwidth issues for no one but the player.

You know what would be kind a cool is there are all sorts of real time voice to lip synch tools out there. You could pick an avatar and have it lip synch to your voice easy enough. It'd be almost as cool and without the chat-roulette shots.

Yeah, then you just get to hear rants that would make a neo-nazi blush from 13 year old kids while wondering where the hell their parents are. Anyone who has played Modern Warfare knows this is a bad idea.

How about just a picture you upload to your profile, when you transmit a little picture of you/avatar is shown.

Very much would like to have it as an option, perhaps only among lancemates from your merc company/house to cut down on griefing. And of course make it optional, and keep a record of it for abuse complaints.

Uh yeah, no thanks. A system like that would be way to easy for people to abuse.

I like the general idea, but considering the wide range of people who will be playing this game I'd stay on the side of caution.

Bad idea, I tend to pilot in the nude. Except for my cooling vest and neuro-helm, of course!

One of the main reasons I said it could be optional to only people you add to a friends list or something like that to cut down on random abuse.

Personally, if someone was on my friends list and then turned their webcam on, making me have to look at their face all of the time, id remove them from my friends list. Unless they were wearing a cool mechwarrior outfit/mask/helmet etc. Or were really... easy on the eye :P

I don't think you'd be staring at them the whole time. Just when they're speaking.

I'm the same as most everyone else here. It sounds cool, but sadly we don't live on the rock with the right people to pull it off with.
