If you have an AMD suggestion please make it. I have used AMD before, but Intel seems to have the best deal right now. I will go for the 2500k and wait for the Z77. Maybe you can make me see the AMD light.
Well, in heavy multithread AMD competes. In gaming, the $109 fx-4100 is enough for most any game out there today, however Piledriver will be coming out in q3/4 of this year, with 15% higher IPC an 10-20% higher clocks, as such it is a decent idea should you plan to upgrade your cpu in the future anyhow.
Also, AM3+ motherboards have the ability to run more hdd/ssd in RAID than the integrated intel controller, and you have 4 way x-fire/sli support on the 990fx chipset, 2 way on the 970 chipset.
you also get a faster dual-channel RAM controller.
But CPU power will be less unless you overclock to equal performance of a stock i5-2500k . sadly you won't overclock better unless your running liquid nitrogen or some other exceptionally extreme cooling solution.
You'll also save about $100 on the initial CPU (if you buy the 4100 before waiting to upgrade when pD comes out) and $50 on the motherboard with AMD.
