Throttle switches are fine just as long as you keep the laws of physics in play. Inertia is a huge force to contend with. I don't want to see mechs literally or instantaneously stopping and reversing direction. It's gotta account for its weight and especially the terrain. If it's on unsteady ground, the mech should fall. Unless you want to go Star Trek and make Inertial Dampeners. I think a mech hitting that switch should slide and then start a reverse run.

MW4 did this if you hit backspace. not a new or unique feature.

Several of the mech titles had this feature. It could be useful, if implemented correctly. I remember in MW2 Mercs I had a key to reverse throttle and then I would accelerate very quickly in the other direction for a similar effect, but it dropped you to zero until you used the throttle + key.

Every mechwarrior had that control. Default key was Backspace, if I remember correctly. If 1-0 was 0%-100% throttle respectively, you could reverse gears by tapping backspace. Wonderful for making super tight turns. You had to decelerate before it would go into the other direction, though, which absolutely makes sense.
