When players are defeated in any kind of match(IE their 'Mech is destroyed), what are the penalties associated? Will a system be in place like in EvE Online where the players 'Mech is permanently lost or will it be like in past MechWarrior games where you'll have to pay for repairs etc.? The answer to this question will weigh heavily on my decision whether or not to pick this game up when it comes out :<. Losing an expensive rig due to a "cheap" situation like stumbling into a 4 on 1 encounter or some such other scenario would be greatly disappointing to a great many people I'd imagine. While a system like that would be highly realistic, it's rough to deal with sometimes.

I guessing that it's gonna be something like Option one, wait BLA minutes/hours till repair is complete or pay $$$ Cbills for new one/instant repairs. (This considering the ammount of dammage sustained and maybe the weight class of you Mech MAYBE also the equipment on board) However, your guess is as good as mine.

Does it really matter that much? The game is free to play, try it out whate ever system it uses it won't cost you a thing to check it out. If it happens to be a system you like, then you can worry about spending money on it, but at least give it a try first.

My wild guess is that repairs will be a small cost, and it will basicly only make you earn a little less winnings from that battle.
Kind of like a "three steps forward, one step back" thing.

Being an F2P title and all, I imagine that one year after launch, the devs will have released a HEAP LOAD of additional chassis for us to buy, and saving up for that Mech you want to pilot will be primary concern. Repairs will be a minor setback.

I guess anything else would just make players extremly frustrated and maybe a bit too cautious.

Let's say you level up your mech and pilot through a series of battles, and then one fateful day you have your ride completely destroyed. Do you lose all mech XP and start over in a new mech, but retain your buff pilot abilities? –BarHaid

[PAUL] You will not be able to have your ’Mech destroyed but that being said, if you somehow lost your ’Mech you would not have to rework your way through the mech Tree. You retain your XP for that chassis.

[DAVID] Your ’Mech can never be completely destroyed. Even when it’s shot to pieces, your team of mechanics and techies are skilled enough to restore it to a bare minimum, just barely functioning state. If you pay your repair bills, they’ll be able to repair it all the way up to a perfectly pristine condition. So you won’t lose any of your ’Mech XP or the ’Mech Efficiencies that you have unlocked with it. Also, keep in mind that the ’Mech Efficiencies represent not just the small tweaks and tuning that your tech team performs on the ’Mechs that you pilot, but also your ability as a pilot to squeeze the extra mile out of every system as you become more familiar with operating a particular model or variant.

[GARTH] To be clear, you could take a damaged ‘Mech into combat, if you wanted to.

Devs have stated there is no perm destruction. But you have to pay for repairs.
You can even bring half repaired mechs to battle if you wanted to (or simply ran out of c-bills) as well.

no permanent mech lost but if you get destroyed you will have to pay for repairs. possibly up to 100% cost of the mech if completely destroyed. but you will always get your base chassis back

their main penalty so far, is 12 on 12 team death match you only get 1 life, no respawn, and the other mode you hot drop ship with 4 mechs in a waiting drop ship, so 4 deaths and youre done. no perma death loss like eve, but if you die like a lemming your team will lose and you wont get paid like the winners.

Many thanks for quoting that dev tidbit XD. That clears up my only worry about this game quite soundly.

No sweat. Besides it would be fun to pilot a damaged mech. For example my Jenner has lost it's SRM. I just patch the gap with armor and go to town with 4 med lasers. :P

Runs cooler for me and no chance of ammo explosions !

The very fact that you can't play the rest of the match should be penalty enough.

My opinion.

im pretty sure repairs will take time. no insta back into fights since everything is "happening in real time". unless you possible by instant repairs or time boosters with real money, or have back up spare mechs, again possible need real money for extra hanger space

I think once your done your done. (for the match). But I also feel loot and money/credits shouldnt be too hard to attain either.
I doubt (unless you just started playing, even then meh) that the cost of repairing your mech would be substantial enough to cause a huge dent in your wallet.

The point is to be an effective team player, and *not* lose your 'mech in a 1 versus 4 encounter by virtue of good scouting and coordination. It would punish you for dumping all your resources into a fancy chassis and then waltzing around like you own the place and getting killed, but even so it still wouldn't be a permanent loss of anything but dignity as far as I've understood.

I expect a pretty light penalty on death from everything I've seen released. No specific other than you'll never lose your chassis and you have to pay for repairs. I suspect that it'll be practically impossible to lose credits in a match. Well, at least with a IS mech. Maybe when the clan come out you'll be able to lose cbills running them?

Personally imho defeat is its own penalty.
