RP Game Idea

The character would all start out dispossessed 'Mech warriors. Approached specifically because they are dispossessed. The firm has a very simple order, they want to put together a new unit using old 'Mechs. The basic jest being, that the 'Mechs in question, lie in a swamp of a foreign (if now somewhat enemy) power. The group is being provided techs, security forces, and a few vehicles to get in, get the 'Mechs started and get them out as safely as possible to a landing zone for extraction. At which point the characters can decide to sign on and keep the 'Mech or collect a reward and move on.
I'm not sure if I want to run it or not, but would really like to either try or find another GM that'll let me play in it.
The other thing would be, what time period would people want this placed in? 3026 when the houses all are still at war? 3040 just after the Fedcom war? 3053 just after the clan stall at Tukayyid? or 3057 just before the truce ends? when exactly?
Like I say this is just something that's been kicking around in my head for some time and thought I'd see if there was any interest in someone running it or wanting to play in it? It could even be a community GM type game where for example I start it off, once the players get the 'Mechs someone else would take over for a mission type campaign or sortie and the someone else for the next one, and so, and so on.
Thoughts? Interest?

My game is a 3025 with some similarities if you are interested. The players can be dispossessed or with a mech, but the unit generally gets the call for the jobs no one else wants, cause it is in deep without cover. The fanfiction I am working on puts a better light to it than I can really explain here, but the thought is, you might have a mech, but that don't mean you aren't going to be doing an orbital insertion via personal drop pod in the skinny and picking up your ride once you are down.
"Suuure... this used to be a DCMS mech, man... but now... Alls mine baby... I stole it fair and square from that base back there about a hundred klicks that randomly burned to the ground..."
If it interests you, look up The Devil's Horsemen RP

That and I think it'd be awesome to put together a group of characters that we can have stick together and pass of from GM to GM just for some random OPs later on that say generally last like 2 to 4 months before ending and someone else taking over the next part. It would be like a bouncing across the galaxy type thing.

You b*stards.
Funny you should mention a planetary raid though...
I could be interested in the RP idea you have Oni, but I'd set it in the deep periphery. That way you can even make up your own planets and factions if you want, and due to the very small amounts of 'mech production out there, doing a deep insertion to steal mechs from a swamp would make a lot of sense

So far it sounds like a 30teenish or 3020ish start time. Sounds like people really really dig the deep periphery. Do we have any volunteers to run it or am I looking to be the first put on the pole so to speak?

"What can you bring to the team?"
"What do you have to offer us that someone else can't?"
"How far are you willing to go to get a new ride?"
"Aside from a 'Mech what do you personally think we need to do achieve the goal of putting you back in a saddle again?"
"What other types of employees do you enjoy working worth?"
"If you were hiring for a recovery operation, what type of people would you look for?"
Warning this Role Play may take awhile as it's going to be more about the journey to get there and the things that are learned on the way both about the characters and about the political situation they are going into. I expect the players to be more of investigators, trying to find out the truths and reasons of what is going on here and the how's and whys. Not a bunch of "lets blast em!" types. There will be be a strong roleplay element as both interacting with one other and various peoples across numerous planets will be required. Government officials, guides, bartenders, locals, merchants, wenches, gigolos, etc.will all need to be reasoned with or interrogated from time to time. This an info gathering campaign as it will be needed to get to the cache and find out exactly how, why, and who knows about it being there.

I wouldn't have it any other way. I figure we'll get most of the regs and hopefully a few new guys and gals here and there, and along the way. I'm currently building up a history and how things came to be. A small taste will be a kind of foreword for the launch and then it's going to be a guarded secret that the players will have to learn about and pry or ask about along the way. Imagine if you will a kind of "Treasure Island" type deal to start out with. So your initial start is going to be akin to 20 year old information or rumors that have been gather by your employer.

Ok, Ok, you asked for it, I was up way too late, but thanks to you I did my research, Now shut up already I went out, I went to NASA, I found a freaking Nebula I like and is right at about the distance I wanted. "There ARe YOU HAPPY Now!?!?!?!?!" "I told ya.. I shoot... but you wouldn't believe me ... why wouldn't you believe me??"
Seriously though, thanks with out you. I wouldn't have found such a great location for the adventure to come. You're a cool cat in my book for that alone. The GM is still going to torture you, but this time he might be nice enough to let you die first

Actually Gabriel I already run one called, "Your Last Chance is Here and Now". This will be my second launch, but much more in the line of investigation and the journey to get there. Depending on the time and interest of other GMs the reins will be passed off from time to time, and perhaps from planet to planet. [Yes that's right boys and girls, if we are headed to a planet along the journey, it'll be posted ahead of time and if one of are many and various GM forums gurus here decides "Hey I always wanted to do something at that locale", they can PM me and there is all likely hood they will take over and describe most of the events on that world.] It's Grand New Experiment, with the chance to be a gaming style that is Hopefully eternal. I'll drop in small bits of info or items to be found but each planet if so chosen by a GM is theirs to do with as they see fit as long as our scheduled time frame to the next jump stays within reason. Say about two months of RL at most. Which should carry out to about 8 or 9 days of game time. Once you guys finally get to your prizes and decide which routes you may take. I plan on hopefully washing my hands of most of it and letting the Unit you all form go from there and be picked up and passed about from GM to GM and campaign to campaign. Hope this clears up any confusion.
BTW: I never BS when it comes to ideas.
