It's great to hear from you guys that I lost touch with.... and it's great to meet new folks.
If you're new to mechwarrior, or never played in one of the old leagues based on the various MW games, you are still very welcome to join me and the guys in the Royal Terra Guard. We will treat you right, MechWarrior veteran or newest of noob that doesn't know a COM-2D Commando from a GAL-100 Galleon. (one being a 25 ton BattleMech and the other a 30 ton tracked light tank with an internal combustion engine).

This weeks begins our regularly scheduled weekly unit practice. Wednesday at 8:30pm EST.
We will meet first on Team Speak and then head into the MW4 server for some Drilling and Battlemech bashing.
Be sure to check the Forums for the latest Team Speak Connection information. It has changed.
When the Beta starts we will migrate our practices to the MWO Beta Software if at all possible.
Potential recruits are welcome. Please fill out an application form using the link in my Signature. Hope to see you all there!

Also, we have regular practices scheduled for Wednesday nights starting at 8:30pm EST. However, most folks won't be around tonight for one reason or other so practice may be limited. Either way, head on over the site.

I can't actually get MW4 or GameRanger running on multiplayer at the moment for some bizarre reason since reinstalling windows, would you mind if I sent my guys to your practices until I can get my gear running again?

The name was chosen by the founder Calvert from the actions of a little know cadet group on Terra at the time of the Aramis uprising. The Royal Sandhurst Academy in England had been a military school for many centuries. At the time of the first Star League it had become a MechWarrior academy. The top cadets were a color guard formation called the Royal Terra Guard. Aramis loyalists laced in Sandhurst turned over the academy and the BattleMechs and armor there to the Usurper. The cadets of the Royal Terra Guard refused to stand down and used their BattleMechs to fight a doomed action against Aramis loyalists forces. They felt that their honor demanded they defend the rights of the citizens of the Star League. They last four held out for two days with small arms in a gymnasium until the building was leveled with artillery.
This willingness to do what was right for the citizens regardless of what those with the political power claimed and in the face of overwhelming odds spoke to Calvert as he envisioned the new Royal Terra Guard to have the same spirit. A willingness to stand up for the people of the InnerSphere against whatever machinations ComStar might have for them and the desire to treat honor like it was still something real and worth adhering to - and even dying for - in a modern age where secret cabals play power games that expend the lives of innocents.
The RTG was formed by a few officers of the ComGuards and ROM (ComStar's military and intelligence service). They had learned that a recent ComStar deep space exploration ship had made contact with something or someone that the current leadership of ComStar felt they could use to leverage ComStar's control over the InnerSphere. However none of them were high ranking enough or trusted enough to be brought in on the plan or full information. Frustrated by the possibility that the leadership of ComStar was going to introduce something dangerous and perhaps even alien into InnerSphere politics they decided to leave ComStar and form a mercenary company to help check whatever insidious plans ComStar might have.
They were able to highjack a company of BattleMechs that ROM was shipping to a private unit for an illegal anti-technology raid against the Davions to start their new unit. The unit is open to pilots of any nationality and does not usually overplay their ComStar origins to new members. The purpose of the unit is to forge alliances with one or more of the Great Houses through servicing contracts and to grow the strength of the Guard so that when ComStar's master plan reveals itself the Royal Terra Guard will be in a position to assist the InnerSphere against whatever danger it might face.
Who are we really?
The RTG originally formed over a decade ago to play MW4 in various leagues including VnR and SSL. Several original members reformed the RTG for MWO when the newest MechWarrior game was announced and have been operating the unit planning for MWO since the closed beta.
As a group of people with a strong interest in MWO, we value teamwork, fairplay and respect for our fellow gamers both on and off the team. Leadership is stable with experience keeping an online unit alive and dealing with league metagame rules so you can expect the RTG to remain stable and not suddenly fold on you. When feasible, for overall unit direction we use team votes. But like any unit members are expected to respect the chain of command and any command decisions.
We plan to operate two wings. One for the competitive players interested in 12 man drops to capture planets and one for pilots just looking for 3 other friends to drop with informally. You can be both. We share builds, tactical ideas, and game info with each other as a part of being team mates. Secretive people and prima-donnas need not apply. You won't be happy with us anyway.
