Edit: go to 1:01 for the best example.
If anyone noticed, the heat, even on a mech with only 3 lasers like the Hunchback, rises very fast. Within just 5 or so seconds of firing, it goes from 30% heat to 100%.

Esta muy bueno. I think we'll get a proper heat scale finally, perhaps even with canon heat values. The other games never made heat as dangerous, and easy to accumulate, as it should have been. You could ride that heat line all day with little issue. Now, I suspect you'll find yourself not firing weapons in order to avoid the heat buildup.

Except that, as far as I can tell, nothing happens when the heat reaches 100% yet. You get the nifty little heat warnings but that's about all that happens right now.

pre alpha and guessing max ranges were turned off the weapons, max ammo was off and probably heat damage was off

just guessing but they were trying to show lots of shooting and damage, not necessarily the meta game of heat management in the demo

Actually it seems that you shut down or explode.

I do like the fact that when firing your heat shoots up then comes down afterwards as the heatsinks do their work. I never really liked it when you sot a couple med lasers and you didnt get the heat spike, cause you had enough heatsinks. It adds a little more realism and reinforces the canon explanation. Although i do want to see ammo explosion or speed effect take place if you ride your heat levels to high.

Its a moot point. We can clearly see that, if you fired your weapons as fast as you could, you could overheat EXTREMELY quickly. Regardless of whether or not heat actually did anything, we can see that if it did, its very easy to screw yourself over.

Where is the coolant gauge/level going to be located? What's the key going to be? 'F', I'm guessing?

As far as we can gather, the developers have not indicated that there will be any form of coolant flushing (thank God).

Coolant is a plague that must be eradicated. Coolant tips the heat scale towards boats and encourages poor heat management techniques.

You should only get coolant if you equip a coolant pod, and that, of course, being a one-use device.

Yep sounds like no coolant flushing!! Will only be able to override the shut down sequence sounds like, so its much more accurate to the TT which is very nice.
