Some have said that we will only have 12 Mechs availble at launch.

But where did we get that idea?

Where have Paul, Bryan, or any of the other Devs said "Only 12 Mechs at launch.".

So here is a crazy thought:

What if they will have ALL the Era appropriate designs availble for us at launch?

Even if they don't, I still think we should set the benchmark a little higher.

might be base 12 mechs at launch I already know because of variants there will be far more than 12, possibly 12 times 3 or 4 with possible mech lab variants adding even more flavor

Well it seems logical to be a smaller number given the time constraints to model and animate something as detailed as a mech. Twelve seems logical in that it is 3 mechs per weight class giving people options but not so overwhemling to a new player. We've only seen 3 mechs fully rendered and running around so far (Atlas, Hunchback, and Jenner). Odds lean toward 12 with new mechs every few weeks there after.

I think 12 was based on the rate they are releasing them and the expected launch. We know there are variants already as well. I hope we'll get new chassis every couple of weeks.

The 12 mech is the the assumption we get considering the rate they revealing the mechs and the summer "launch". But now that we know tat launch is actually open beta...it might suggest that we may get more mechs than 12....

open beta is launch in a free to play, generally speaking the game will work, you get to keep your stuff you earn during open play and you can spend real money during open beta, so open beta or launch. As long as I get to play and they take my money for more mechs and hula girls all is good.

To only have 12 at launch would be sad because there are more lights and Meds then heavies and even fewer assaults. So to limit each to 3 would just be silly

In the BattleTech universe, this is true to some extent. However, because this is a MechWarrior computer game, why not just let players pick what they want to pick, and then when they get thrashed by 'Mechs half their weight, they'll think twice about picking their 'Mechs! :)

And when the MechLab is explained next week, hopefully we'll get enough options to essentially mod our 'Mechs into OTHER canon 'Mechs for the time being! All that would take is a little record sheet referencing, and a lot of grinding!

I'm thinking 8 if lucky.. at least for a Close Beta.

Closed Beta may only have 3 (Hunchback, Jenner and Atlas)

Now that said, being a F2P I can see them adding a mech or two a month. As I am sure once FD and the guys get a good rythm going on the modeling and the physics for each Mech the mechs available may improve.

Unfortunately MechLab won't be explained next week:
