I am an avid fan of the Battletech series, and when I found out about this game I literally had a face melter.

Since it's for the PC, I just have a bit of a stagnant issue, and that's whether or not Linux will have their own version.

I'd really like to be able to play it, but I doubt WINE is very kind to MMOs. I hope the developers are able to help :3

Well there certainly is a good market for Linux out there. I know Tripwire reported some good sales for Amnesia: The Dark Decent on Linux. I'm sure the people with Linux out there are dying to get their hands on any AAA title that comes there way.

F2P just sweetens the deal for Linux users and the more people that play, the more people that will inevitably pay in the cash shop once the game comes out.

Even if it's not Linux compatable when it gets released, there's no reason (that I can think of) as to why a Linux version cannot be released eventually (except keeping up with the patches, maybe).

I doubt they will make a "Linux" or "OSX" port either but PC is a hardware platform designation not synonymous with "Windows", hence the slight confusion over "PC only" statement no doubt. Though is does also state DirectX which should help to clearify their intent behind the erroneous "PC Only" phrase.

All eleven computers in my household run Debian GNULinux and only one dual boots to WinXP as it has too for the job my Girlfriend has. And when she is not working at that job she reboots into Linux for her gaming.

I have been successful in the past getting any game I was serious about putting in the effort for to run through WINE but that was back when I was serious into one game and it did take me over a week to do so. This game would apply to my putting in the same effort or more.

This is the 3rd post I see about this on the first page! Come on people, use the search!

Isn't the moto of Linux users "RTFM"? Well I'll say this to you "UTFS"

Guess what it means...

Fallen Earth has a mac and wine/linux beta client and it is an MMO and I have heard of many folks getting Lord of the Rings Online and Dungeons and Dragons Online working with Wine.

Hopefully it can happen eventually even if it is not at first.

We are not sure if the game will run in WINE. However there is always the VirtualBox option. Providing you have a decent enough rig, you can simply create a Virtual Windows PC, asssign a good bit of RAM to it & run any Windows installation you wish. :)

I am currently dual booted with Windows 7/ Ubuntu 11.10 on my desktop & though I have never run VirtualBox on it, I have done so on my netbook which only has Ubuntu 11.10 on it. I installed Windows XP & it ran like a dream. :D

(Although I must tell you that at that time, I did not install any games, but all other programs, built-in as well as well as third party, worked flawlessly.)

VirtualBox/Xen have simple video card: you can play only 2d games.

Yeah, what RecOll said. Any virtual client is not going to see your ATI/Nvidia video card. Instead it will see a virtual graphic driver that will not support the advanced features built into the underlying hardware. Hence, the game will not run in a virtual environment.

I dual boot my desktop pc into Windows 7 for the sole purpose of playing MWO.
All the other machines in my home run Ubuntu, CentOS, or OS X.

While it would be great if this game was officially supported under Linux, I am not optimistic that would ever happen.
