1st Tyr on Sarna.net

"The 1st Tyr was originally formed as the first BattleMech regiment of what would become the Free Rasalhague Republic.
Through its history, it had been considered an elite unit.

In 3027, the Lyran Commonwealth had secretly formed 1st Tyr BattleMech Regiment. The unit consisted of assault 'Mechs manned by Rasalhagian exiles and refugees.

In 3029, Lyran leaders invited the leaders of the Rasalhague independence movement, called the Tyr, to Tamar. The Tyr were impressed and agreed to work with Lyran government. The unit participated in last throws of the Fourth Succession War, then went into hiding while waiting for the politicians of secure independence.

After independence was achieved in 3034, rogue Draconis Combine military units that were stationed on Rasalhague began to attack the Republic. These forces were declared ronin by Coordinator.
The 1st Tyr had recently reactivated prior beginning of hostilities as a garrison unit for Rasalhague.

After the Ronin War's conclusion, the 1st Tyr was decommissioned and its members went on to be promoted to other positions in the military and the Republic's government."

Also, KungsArme:

The KungsArme has shown a remarkable level of competence, considering its short history as an active national force. Their ability to face the renegade DCMS units during the Ronin Wars as well as their ongoing campaign against raiders and periphery pirates has forged them into an impressive and cohesive fighting force.

The assistance of both the LCAF and DCMS in the process of forging this fighting force can not and should not be discounted. The LCAF committed resources, in the form of the Tyr Regiment, and personel to guide, advise and help lead the nascent national army during their initial conflicts, while the DCMS sent units to support as well as personel to advise and command during this same period. Though several incidents have occurred between the KungArme and the forces allied with them, few were of any consequence and relations between the KungsArme and the forces of the Draconis Combine and the Lyran Commonwealth are openly respectful if not expressly congenial. With the withdrawal of the supporting forces from Steiner and Kurita, the duties of defense and protection fall squarely on the KungsArme, and they have consistently risen to the challenge.

The Field Manual: Comstar ranks the 1st Tyr as Elite, though I have no clue why.

from the sounds of this news flash, and a previous one, i sound kinda like each faction will have an elite unit you can join once you gain enough loyalty/rank. when joining this elite unit, lostech is unlocked in the mech lab? if this is so, i will be happy lostech will be an unlock for elite unit members...maybe

From as far back as Cresent Hawks I have follwed this game and now after years of waiting, am going to see what this game should have been in the frist place. A MMO with player exp base to fix the mech you wish to run in the game. After seeing it go through top down to arcade to FPS the wait is going to be over. Good luck in your work guys, sweet looking HUD and controls setup, will be a blast to pilot it.

Former and its original commander, Elected Prince Regent, Christian Månsdottir, reinstated of the 1st Tyr as symbol rebirth in wake of Clan's invasion.

Here's a bit on Christian Månsdottir: Lyran citizen who requested transfer to the 1st, becoming its commander after the liberation of Kirchbach. After the declaration of independance in '34, many people thought he would become the Elected Prince, but instead it went to a leader of the Tyr Resistance Movement (I know, confusing), Haakon Magnusson, who had worked out the deal with ComStar and the Combine. Instead, Christian became a General and Chief of Staff of the KungsArmen. His politics were quite different from Magnusson, prompting him to found a competing political party (Motsatt Stalining Parti or MoPat). The members of this group were old 1st Tyr, or from the Lyran half of the FRR. The big differences of opinion seemed to be relations with the Combine and how to handle the military (size and composition).

Månsdottir was captured on Rasalhague by the Wolves, though Haakon was able to flee. The Wolves offered him governorship of the captured Rasalhague worlds, but he refused, and was imprisoned, later to be rescued by the Wolf's Dragoons.

Interestingly, the unit wasn't actually brought back into existance until at least '61, when Månsdottir became the Elected Prince Regent (the population actually elected Ragnar Magnusson, who was not able to lead as he was a bondsman for first the Wolves and later the Ghost Bears, so they held another election for a Regent).

Christian is much more militarily focused, and had he been elected Prince instead of Haakon, the FRR may not have found itself in quite so bad of a position as it did when the Clans invaded. Haakon felt that increasing the size of the military (the KungsArme) would be seen as a provication to the political powers to either side of the Republic, and didn't want to do anything to cause conflict. Månsdottir greatly mistrusted the Dracs, and wanted to build up the army to protect against them. Christian was also much less (at least in his later life) anti-merc.

Anyway, to get to the point: It's interesting that there is talk of reforming it now, even though it wasn't reformed for over a decade more, in response to the Clan Invasion and as a symbol of "rebirth."
