I just had to go on record for this map. This is far and away the best map so far imo. It has a great alien world feel to it with fantastic detail. It offers narrow corridors that open up to massive open areas. The ability to climb the massive crystal formations adds a great factor to how the map can be played and then the steep cliffs that can drop you into a crater with only one way out. Great stuff! Kudos the guys that made this map. Im looking forward to what you come up with next.

Fair enough, now they just need to make Alpine as good.

There's still the issue of balance. I agree - it is a beautiful and cool map, but the southern spawn is offered much more map control right out of the gate than the northern, and with better firing positions. This is also true on Frozen City and River City - so map imbalance isn't really anything new to the game.

But yeah, if they can rework the spawns a little, this is probably the coolest map yet.

Yep Alpine needs a second pass to make it as good as Desert.

1) Alpine needs a tunnel system underneath that one huge mountain
2) Alpine needs more cover in general
3) Alpine needs more trees!

So far it is my favorite. So far it is the only map that is fun even with the OP missiles, due to adequate cover and a variety of good sniping/sneaking locations.

Being that the ambient is -18° C they have the no trees right.

Played a few games on it last night. Awesome map, just loved the size and the detail.

85% unused space, the other 15% is the used space straight down the middle of both maps. Pointless.

I give PGI -4 stars for trying to make big maps work for game modes meant for small maps.

Aye really awesome map, like something out of a Roger Dean painting. I'm no way near knowing my way round it yet either, and am still finding tricksy corners and sneaky new sniping spots. Awesome job.

My only gripe is that the map is more tourmaline than desert, and though I love the tourmaline, I was quite looking forward to the blue skies and rolling sands of a desert, desert planet. I hope PGI do not rule the concept out when thinking about future maps. As we can't use Desert, shall we call the potential future map Dunes? :)

Thank god someone in here gets it. Making big maps for the sake of making big maps is just well....very PGI.

Nice map, visually.

I do not dig strolling all the way across the map so a light can back cap
when their whole team is dead and no one can get back to the red
square in time...

Make it TDM and then it will be much more fun.

The red square game sucks.

Good heavens, sir, they aren't just trying! This was a definite success. In spite of being freaking enormous and having loooooooong sight-lines, the times I've played it I've almost always ended up in a brawl, even when the enemy tried to be shneaky and go for cap.

IMO, Tourmaline is the best map yet. It looks amazing, it's fun to play on, and I expect it to take months for the community to figure out all the tactical ins and outs. Kudos, PGI! Kudos!

It's almost like we're fighting over something instead of killing each other for no reason.

While I love the look and size of this map... Like Alpine Peaks, it feels unfinished. I would have liked to see some massive hot spots on the map. You have a few spots on caustic that spew steam that jumps your mechs heat if you step on/over them. I'd like to see massive heat spots like this on the new map. For an alternate version of this map, instead of the obvious night map... I'd like to see a massive crystal dust storm or heat storm that rolls through and jumps all mechs heat by 30 to 50 % and lasts for about 10 seconds.

Like it matters to you, you're just going to quit the map anyway.

In another nod to Roger Dean, I think what we need is a Magnetic Storm.

I think there are a lot of trees in siberia... even in winter.

Yeah, desert is the best map so far!
