I actually have a question/suggestion that is RIGHT up podcast guy's alley... and is maybe something they're already thinking about.
It has to do with how to do the initial release of the Clan Mechs and how to keep from royally messing up their already-released and in use "base" of Battlemechs.
Basically, I can see that there will be a horrible temptation for PGI to glut the market with the clan mechs on first release; because the demand is expected to be so very, very, high.
I think it would be a real shame and actually bad for their bottom line if they did an open-ended release (no limit on the number of mechs sold) because they would immediately render all other 'mechs and builds utterly pointless until the inner-sphere tech catches up significantly (about 15/20 years game time).
Even if they offer refit kits for older mechs at cut rates ... why have second best when best is easily available... or even available for a moderate amount of pain?
They really need to just bite the bullet on the clan mechs and offer a limited number of them.
IMO, it would be neat to see them tell everyone exactly how many they'd be letting out of the bag and put them up for for bidding; and tell them how long they can expect to be the only peopl with clan tech (specify a time range, not a specific date). Also, maybe have non-cash payers get into that pool at a lower ratio of freely earned credits vs paid for with RL money credits.
Than, later (and further down the timeline) - start releasing more of the clan mechs, AFTER players have already adjusted. Make SURE you tell the players at the first bidding how long their 'mechs will be "exclusive."
Do the same thing for the very first few inner sphere omnimechs.
Otherwise you completely emasculate your 'mechbase. This would also allow them to do what they SHOULD do with the clan tech - release it in limited numbers. Keep it at the 1 clan TO 1 IS mech/mech ratio that the tech is (better) balanced at. Actually render "the clans" into what they should be ... spartans ... omg, scary - thank God there aren't many of them.
Be rather interested to hear what phil, sean, and the guys think of this.
Just trying to have the clantech buffer into the innersphere TO&E's "slowly," as it did in the setting.

* Collisions will absolutely be back. In what form?
* Is side-stepping in our future?
* What is the current status on 1st person vs. 3rd person, in regards to hardcore mode, 12v12, and upcoming Community Warfare?
* The community voted for 12v12 to be 1st person only, will go live at launch
* Private matches will have the option to pick 1st or 3rd person - great for community-based leagues!
* In-game movement tutorial was just the beginning, weapons tutorial and more on the way
* When and how will new weapons be introduced to the game?
* Timeline might be reset, might be put to community vote
* Bryan talks about the possibility of "sharding" the universe, so people can experience different time periods, such as the Succession Wars, the Clan Invasion, as well as the post-Clan era
* Regarding the recent PPC and Gauss Rifle changes, what criteria does PGI use to determine whether or not a weapons needs balance work
* Gauss Rifle intended to be a situational weapon, ie. an extreme range sniper rifle with FPS breathe-like mechanics
* Why did the Gauss Rifle get the recharge mechanic change, rather than the PPC?
* Will the NARC get some love?
* Will the UAC random jamming mechanic ever be re-examined? Maybe a skill-based mechanic instead?
* Is there a release schedule for the next two maps (island and moon)? Any other maps in the works?
* No reduced gravity on moon map
* The first new game modes will come with Community Warfare, and will essentially be a straight up team death match, as well as an attack & defend mode
* Planetary domination/control is likely to be multi-tiered matches, starting off with TDM and ending with attack/defend
* Bryan talks about base turrets, destructible objectives, and dropships!
* Attack/defend mode may require multiple 'Mechs available to the player, ie. "dropship mode", to make the battles last longer and be more epic
* Bryan talks about the possibility of having merc corp-owned assets, such as dropships and bases
* Solaris Arena anyone? Step by step, it will happen

NM.
Seems that instead of attempting to maintain a 2:1 ratio of IS:Clan tech, they're going to ... how shall I say it ... "equalize" the clan tech, and have justified it by the argument that clantech is too OP and the use of the empty words "intent" and "flavor," ... words which need to be defined so that people can know what you mean.

The servers already know who shot who, when they did it and what weight class and particualr mech everyone is in.
That's ALL the information they need to do the FULL clan honor rules. Fans of the clans have, since mw2, been trying to do impropmtu implementation of the clan honor rules; so there can't be the excuse that "it would put people off of the clan tech."
They can even do the per-clan honor rules AND stuff like "they double-teamed us first, honor rules are OFF!"
Clantech pluses would offset these indirect but very effective clantech minuses ... that is, if they're interested in doing the fictional setting as it actually is, instead of how randall bills and the authors wish they had done it.
It's like there's no consideration for the people who actually like the setting as it is. :|

I'm 45 minutes into podcast 89a and I now understand why we have a slower FPS with "ride inside avatars" and not an armored combat game that actually plays like the novels have it.
The ignorance is really, really getting on my nerves. My stomach is actually boiling right now.
I think I'm going to stop for the time being until I can at least not have the negative physical effects to deal with.
It looks at this point like nobody cares to have mechs actually be like they are in the novels; so i'm not going to get the game I've been waiting 14 years for. MWO will probably go another ten years. life at that point, if it's anything like it is for others at that age right now, will not allow me to play a video game.
I really feel it for the guys that have been waiting since 1984. That's longer than most of you forum users have been alive.
