Good info guys, thanks. I will admit I was originally a little miffed that they were DoT lasers and thus the poll. But I talked to the guru's at nogutsnogalaxy and mostly, slept on it. I am converted now. As long as the pulse lasers if they come into the game do discharge like in MWLL. Because to anyone who only played MW3 back then, will maybe comment that the regular lasers are pulse lasers.

But then and I just remembered this... The MW3 intro video showed the Atlas with it's four standard medium lasers firing JUST like this:

What is your opinion on the weapon effects that we have seen so far?
What would you change if you had the opportunity?

Personally, I feel that they are more cartoonish than what I was expecting.
The missiles contrails are far too short and light colored. (make long black contrails like MWLL)
The AC 20 is not big enough nor is it unique. it looks like a missile. please fix this. (Make it like MWLL)
The lasers are good but need muzzle flashes.
The sounds are also, in my opinion, weak compared to MWLL.
I might catch some heat from this but this needs to be brought up.
MWLL does weapons right, don't be afraid to copy them.

Edit: The '09 trailer did missiles better than MWOs

Lasers don't have muzzle flashes - thats AC's, Agree on missile trails. All sounds need to be louder and more distinct. AC20 should have a deep "whuump" sounds (it is a low velocity, large calibre weapon)

cant see the videos for another 2 hours so i'll come back and say something then, havent played or seen MWLL so i cant comment on their sounds or looks

All I care about is this: How BADASS will the Gauss Rifle discharge be once the game is out?

the fact that you think lasers have muzzle flashes make me think you have no idea what you're talking about.

I know lasers don't have muzzle flashes.
But guess what, it looks better.
Realism was thrown out the window as soon as we started playing as Giant robots.
It's the rule of cool.
Edit: the fact that you think lasers are even visible makes me thing you have no idea what you're talking about.

I'm pretty sure missile contrails were limited for system performance reasons rather than aesthetics.


Hopefully we'll have a lot of graphic options to tweak stuff like this so the sim-fanatic with a big wallet can play in a smokey mess and the rest of us can do whatever will actually run smoothly :ph34r:

If we're arguing about graphics, I didn't see anything I objected to in the one gameplay video that exists.

I am fine with the missiles not having smoke trails. It is actually a good thing as you DON'T want a smoke trail. It gives away your position. I know that the AIM-9 sidewinder and AIM-7 Sparrow got a new model number after they were switched to a smokeless rocket motor.

I'm fine with lasers not having muzzle flash, because...well...they are already horrendously unrealistic by having visible beams in the first place. That alone I would say is a serious "muzzle flash" if you want to think like that. I think I even saw a troll a day or so ago mention how lasers should be improved to be more realistic by having Star Wars style blaster bolts fly through the air like tracer bullets. Clearly a troll, but people got baited anyway.

The missiles just don't look right. I liked how they looked in MW4, but they look insanely cartoony. I feel that these thing should be addressed ASAP, so that they have time to change.

Actually, it states in several books that the lasers ARE invisible, but are registered by the HUD and colored by the HUD so the pilot knows what is coming to them. If you were outside of the Cockpit and not wearing the neurohelmet, they would, in fact, be invisible to you.

Honestly, I think it looks great so far and people need to stop worrying about since it isn't out for us to actually play yet.

The missiles looked fine to me. I don't think not having a smokey contrail is a bad thing, but then again I know not all rocket motors make smoke.

I won't complain if they do make smoke, either for what it is worth, but it wouldn't phase me if they never get added.

Laser muzzle flashes look cooler? Hmmmm.... hadn't heard that before.

I'd agree about the sounds tho, however, I also realise that this is pre-alpha and I really can't heard them very well over the music anyways.

I like how the LRMs swarm. I'm a big fan of SRMs so I kind wish they did the same.

That is a writers conceit. They're trying to retroactively explain why people could see the laser beams. So they say the energy flux is causing the do-dad to do the thing that the thing does when it hits and inversion state....thingy....something.

It is science fiction, and I would rather see the beams and let logic take a back seat. However, I worry about some things if it doesn't make sense, and I really dislike throwing techno-babble at the problem to explain everything. I'm fine with real world answers.

Like the guy said, they're giant robots. Logic is not a strict rule anymore. Lasers are cool, so we show them.

Holy Geez!! You can see that laser! And it....well.....it kinda looks like the one in the video.
