That is the page of torrent links. Scroll down to

\Version .0028 is the latest full installer.
If you are installing from scratch the above files are all that you need.
If you are patching from a version older then .0028 the files are below. Once you are updated to version .0028 the rest of the updates are above.
******************************************************
right above that is the link to the last installer torrent. You'll need a program like Utorrent to download the files.
edit: just tried it and it still works. people, including me, are still seeding the files. The link to download is in white letters, it's not the blue lettered file name.
the rest of the links, .0029, .0030, etc are patches.

might be useful. I just installed win98 on an old laptop and run it on that. : /
Man I am full of help today.
I'd love if the devs remade the old games with the new engine *nudge* *nudge*

Mw4: Mercs works... But I have to run the game in the lowest resolution in order for it to run smoothly. If I run the game in windowed mode, it runs smoothly looks 10x better but my mouse input is sluggish.
Mechwarrior 3 will not install at all. I have tried some of the various tips floating around but windows 7 will not let me even run any .exe at all.
I have achieved some success with MW2: Mercs with "mechvm" and plain old dosbox... It seems like everyone gets a totally different experience with getting Mercs to run. For me: I have the most success launching the win 95 version of Mercs... It seemingly runs great... Until me or the ai launches LRMs or SRMs then it's back to windows. With dos box everything runs smooth till I launch an actual mission then it's back to windows.
Surprisingly MechCommander runs great! You can download it for free. Though it's not first person perspective you might find it really useful to familiarize yourself with 31st century mech combat. You can learn about how lances/role warfare might translate to MWO. Install is simple as pie: copy the ISO files onto your hard drive (with old school games in win 7 I reccomended against using c:/program files as your root dir. I always put them somewhere else. Mount the ISO using daemon tools or alcohol 120. Run the "mcx.exe" in you hard drive copy and you should be golden.... The menus might be all kinds of crazy colors until you launch an actual mission... But it works... I am about half-way through the game and I gotta say it's great (never played it before).
Everyone's opinion is subjective but I would order them as such:
MW2: Mercs
MW 3 (I remember the voice acting to be incredible)
MW 4 (totally awesome selection of mechs and weapons but the mech lab and "art direction" leave a lot to be desired)
I never got to play MW, MW 2: 31st cent. Or MW2: ghost bear's legacy so I can't speak on them.
If anyone know how to get #3 to work please tell me! I have the disc ready to go but I get the same "no 16 bit software in 64 bit OS" that I get with MechCommander but my "trick" does not work with MW3.

To run Mechwarrior 1 under DOSBox v0.63 and later, you need to open the emulator's configuration file (Dosbox.conf) using Notepad and change the string that says mpu401=intelligent to mpu401=uart or mpu401=false. Otherwise, the game will crash after every mission.
Also, the game uses a 320x200 resolution (4:2,5 aspect ratio), so the graphics may appear "squashed". To fix this, look up aspect=false in the DOSBox config file and change it to aspect=true.
Finally, Mechwarrior will work properly only on a very low cycle setting.

I'm right there with you, Win7 x64 is a no-go for old MW titles.
eta: i see theres maybe some hope, going to check out the links. I'd be satisfied if we could get mw2 netmech working again

What did you set the cycles to? I had a lot of trouble trying to get something that would place semi-nice. I can't seem to find what I used, but I'd managed to make the game run jerky.

Thanks a lot. I'll try that later and get back to you.
To everyone else trying to work out their older games, I'm assuming you already have an old copy of it? It would be really nice if they updated and re-released some of the old MW game on Steam or GOG. It would renew a lot of interest and hype in the series, which in turn would be awesome to hype up the launch of MWO.

MW1 - runs on dosbox 0.61
MW2Psx - runs on PSP with CFW like 6.60 PRO-B10 (and untill Sony pull their fingers out of their a$$es and release EVERY SINGLE Psx game for download via the PSstore, I will fully support hacked psp and pirate ps1 games on it. When the choice is between buying or not playing, things are fine, but when the choice is pirate or there is no way to play it at all if you are an honest user, the choice is simple really. And anyway - converting a ps1 game to psp takes less than 60 seconds, so Sony has absolutely ZERO excuse for not releasing them).

If you have MW2 windows 95/Pentium edition you can go here: http://www.calpoly.e...conversion.html to convert it to 3DFX and play it with a wrapper.

It apparently doesn't have the DOS version on it, it won't even install on it's own, and it crashes on startup in MechVM.
Probably means, that I won't be able to play it at all. :\
Though I could try to install XP in a VM...
