Which makes sense how? We fight but the outcome is predetermined? So the Clan pilots play to lose? Or just the ones who are not Wolf? So when we play Trell I the IS pilots should come expecting to lose? If you cannot decide the fate, you are not in control which leads us back to the same thing I was saying before. It is basically pedantry.

It has nothing to do with win or lose, it is about immersion, being a part of the world we are playing in. Partaking with more people, a greater sense of comradre. ;)

I liked the idea of the achievement titles. You can even add other options in there:

Historian: Outcome of the particular battle you participated in was true to BT History - Meh, boring...
History Maker: Changed (for the better) the outcome of a particular battle, against BT history - you're a real hero
Invader/Defender: Consolation title - Not everybody will participate, you at least you can say "I was there" - and "I friggin' lost..."

You can be way more creative with the titles, but its all for fun anyway.

Sadly nearly impossible to implement, and the results could be extremely different from canon, and mess up the whole galaxy.

No, we're fighting FOR, as in, to capture, planets that aren't important.

But they said nothing about special events like Tukayyid. To not have Tukayyid in a game claiming to keep so closely to the canon and to make you feel like you're part of the universe would be totally *** backwards. Its a golden opportunity for one of the most epic and awesome battles the Mechwarrior series has never seen.

Agreed.

I have to disagree, there is a lot of time, and as I stated, there would be no change from history, no matter how the battle went. We the players cannot influence the timeline, but to be able to take part in something massive would be a great thing. I am very curious as to what the Development team think. So I am going to have to have a sense of hope for this until they either shoot it down or otherwise B)

Doing a very rough calculation the Inner Sphere fields thousands of mechs, the Clans, far less, but quite a few anyway.

I tallied up the forces on the Pržno Plain a while back since I'm quite the Jade Falcon fan, and my total came to:

Clan Jade Falcon
865 'Mechs, 510 fighters, 2 060 Elementals

ComGuard
1 294 'Mechs, 336 armoured vehicles, 507 fighters, 18 788 ground troops

========================================================

Simply multiplying this by seven gives us a super-rough picture of Tukayyid:

Clans
6 000 'Mechs, 3 500 fighters, 14 000 Elementals

ComGuard
9 000 'Mechs, 2 000 armoured vehicles, 3 500 fighters, 131 000 ground troops

Yeah, I can totally see that taking place with players taking up those spots. Even without the additional firepower, 15K Mechs aka players? Count me out, I don't want to be responsible for breaking the internets. ;) Or giving the poor person who has to try to set that one up at PGI a heart attack or five. B)

None of the team said no yet, so either they have not seen this or it is being considered anyway, and I made a good guess B)

Then I don't see a need/use of it. I don't like playing the historical winners in any kind of history related game (be it strategy or anything else), and there is really nothing great about playing the losing ones if at the end even if you win there won't be any effects felt in the game because of it. It is like one of those weird american Civil War replays.

Same with above mentioned clan split for Warden/Crusader, without a right and ability to influence things this game will be just a bit more than a mech using Battlefield P4F

The Devs said we will be able to affect some smaller (unimportant) stuff in the game ,but we wont change the History.

That being true ,they havent said how exactly this will be done , Im expecting they will reset any major map v history ,

when the historical Timeline dictates, If that is true the out come of the battle may be different , and just the fact that it is

"Epic" would be great Fun to be part of.

Any way they will be at the very least in the news feed , would it not be cool

to have your "Unit" if not your name listed as a participant or maybe a winner or survivor .!

What could possibly be done is divide Tukayyid into seven theaters of battle, each with a much larger map and player count (32 or 64) and have it play out that way. Have the planet open for people to pick a theather and play for 21 days with the game keeping track of who wins the most objectives on each map. Those that participate get a unique "I participated in the Battle of Tukayyid" ribbon/medal, with the winners also getting some kind of "I won the Battle of Tukayyid" ribbon/medal.

I imagine the developers could trick players into thinking there is a much larger battle going on around them by using skybox tricks and generally making it seem like a war is going on all around you (random explosions in the sky and on the ground, crashing aerofighters, etc)

And this is why the Devs will CONTROL those key planets to advoid this. What ALL of you are forgetting is that whoever controls the IP has final say on what can be done to the storyline, whether we like it or not.

We deal with this in STO, cause no matter what the playerbase will ask for, if CBS says "NO android Captains'((And this is what they have bluntly said.)) then that's what they must deal with. If whoever owns Battletech says: "You can do what you want, BUT the storyline will be preserved." then that is what will go down or Lawyers will be involved...And after that company that will not be named I rather not have that happen.

Oi, the scale.

Com Guards
1st Army (Kappa) - 105 Mechs / 24 Vehicles / 48 Infantry (units) / 39 Fighters
2nd Army (Mu) - 93 Mechs / 28 Vehicles / 56 Infantry (units) / 39 Fighters
3rd Army (Lambda) - 99 Mechs / 26 Vehicles / 52 Infantry (units) / 39 Fighters
4th Army (Iota) - 112 Mechs / 22 Vehicles / 43 Infantry (units) / 39 Fighters
5th Army (Omicron) - 73 Mechs / 35 Vehicles / 69 Infantry (units) / 39 Fighters
6th Army (Kappa) - 105 Mechs / 24 Vehicles / 48 Infantry (units) / 39 Fighters
7th Army (Iota) - 112 Mechs / 22 Vehicles / 43 Infantry (units) / 39 Fighters
8th Army (Pi) - 67 Mechs / 37 Vehicles / 73 Infantry (units) / 39 Fighters
9th Army (Lambda) - 99 Mechs / 26 Vehicles / 52 Infantry (units) / 39 Fighters
10th Army (Nu) - 87 Mechs / 30 Vehicles / 60 Infantry (units) / 39 Fighters
11th Army (Eta) - 125 Mechs / 17 Vehicles / 35 Infantry (units) / 39 Fighters
12th Army (Beta) - 158 Mechs / 4 Vehicles / 9 Infantry (units) / 39 Fighters

Total Com Guard Assets:
1235 Mechs
295 Vehicles (Disproportionately arty and scouts)
588 Infantry Units (mostly conventional)
1056 Fighters

Will work on the clans...

*Edit: This is wrong, see Dihm's post next page, Com Guards had more units - Math error, proportions are right just needed to multiply by six...*

Clan units are very imprecise at Tukayyid. Several units were probably damaged and may have been pulled for recovery (Too many clusters are assigned to some galaxies and some clusters disappear from the records between the 5th wave and Tukayyid.). Additionally some commanders further bid down their forces internally. Invading clan units from the Smoke Jaguars, Nova Cats and Jade Falcons would be expected to have relatively higher unit damage due to the battles at Luthien and Twycross. The Wolves and Bears took proportionately lower losses and the Steel Vipers and Diamond Sharks were fresh. As such these numbers are going to represent a reasonable upper bound on clan forces.

Smoke Jaguars:
Two Galaxies (Alpha and Beta)
4 clusters per galaxy (keshik trinary plus 4 clusters)
Average of 3 Mech Trinaries plus 1 Supernova Trinary with approximately half the clusters having an Aerospace Trinary

CSJ ApproximateTotal:
270 Mechs / 80 Elemental Points / 120 Fighters

Nova Cats:
Three Galaxies (Alpha, Beta and Gamma)
Alpha (Keshik plus 3 clusters) - 4 Mech Trinaries, 1 Elemental Trinary and 1 Fighter Trinary each
Beta (Keshik plus 3 clusters) - 3 Mech Trinaries, 1 Elemental Binary and 1 Fighter Binary each
Gamma Galaxy - Composition unknown - assumed to be similar to Beta

CNC Approximate Total:
490 Mechs / 90 Elemental Points / 220 Fighters

Steel Viper:
Three Galaxies (Alpha, Gamma and Zeta (reserve))
Alpha (Keshik plus 3 clusters) - 4 Mech Trinaries, 2 Elemental Trinaries and half have 1 Fighter Trinary
Gamma (5 clusters) - 3 Mech Trinaries, 1 Mech Binary, 1 Elemental Trinary, and 1 Fighter Trinary
Zeta (4 clusters) - Average 2 Mech Trinaries, 2 Infantry Trinaries and 1 Fighter Trinary

CSV Approximate Total:
585 Mechs / 175 Elemental Points / 120 Infantry Points / 280 Fighters

Diamond Shark:
~1 Galaxy (2 clusters from Alpha and Gamma plus one from Omega)
Compositions unknown - Presume 3 Mech Trinaries, 1 Elemental Trinary and 1 Fighter Trinary each

CDS Approximate Total:
225 Mechs / 75 Elemental Points / 150 Fighters

Ghost Bear:
3 Galaxies (Alpha, Beta and Delta)
Alpha (Keshik plus 4 clusters) - 4 Mech Trinaries, 2 Elemental Binaries, 1 Fighter Binary
Beta (Keshik plus 4 clusters) - 3 Mech Trinaries, 1 Elemental Trinary, 2 Fighter Binaries
Delta (Keshik plus 4 clusters) - 3 Mech Trinaries, 1 Elemental Trinary, 1 Fighter Binary

CGB Approximate Total:
600 Mechs / 200 Elemental Points / 320 Fighters

Jade Falcon:
3 Galaxies (Delta, Vau and Gamma)
Galaxy compositions are unknown conflicting. Known unit compositions for the Jade Falcons favor 3 Mech Trinaries, 1 Mech Binary, 1 Elemental Trinary and 1 Fighter Trinary
Assuming 4 cluster galaxies yields:

CJF Approximate Total:
660 Mechs / 180 Elemental Points / 360 Fighters

Wolf:
3 Galaxies (Alpha, Beta and Gamma)
Alpha (Keshik plus 3 clusters) - 3 Mech Trinaries, 1 Elemental Trinary, 1 Fighter Binary plus 2 Binaries of Nagas
Beta (Keshik plus 3 clusters) - 4 Mech Trinaries, 1 Elemental Trinary, 1 Fighter Binary
Gamma (Keshik plus 3 clusters) - 2 Mech Trinaries, 2 Mech Binaries, 1 Elemental Binary, 1 Fighter Trinary

CW Approximate Total:
525 Mechs (plus 20 Nagas...) / 120 Elemental Points / 210 Fighters

Clan Approximate Total:
3375 Mechs / 920 Elemental Points / 120 Infantry Points / 1660 Fighters
