- You should be able to play the game with your character, doing missions on foot with a simple pistol, rifle etc. like any MMORPG and some misions, events in a battlemech/tank.
Imho A game only based on batletech will be quickly boring.

- Stick to the rules.
- Salvaging is the magic word
- Please avoid the previous games mistakes, allowing all kind of customization of any battlemech.
- the starting date should be before the clans invasion, so way before 3025.

Trust me i was waiting for a Mechwarrior MMO for a long time.
If i hope you can do something out of this outstanding world i don't trust you yet.
But i wish you luck. :)

Waitwaitwaitwait. Welcome to the forums but...

We have a mech game and you DON'T want the mechs? Play Living Legends then. Date's also already confirmed, and if we started in '25 we'd need to wait 25 IRL years before the clans showed up (Since the game is being played in a 1:1 scale).

Canoncally 'Mech pilots never dismounted, last of all things to fight on the ground. That's for the infantry.

Good day, and again, welcome.

Here, take this [Osiris]. I know it is old and rusty but it should serve you to kill [10 surats] for my stew. Maybe I'll give you some stew, too, eh? For doing a good job?

On other notes... THIS IS BATTLETECH, with BATTLEMECHS. Running around on foot may seem fun, but 99% of what people are playing are in Mechs. Yes a BattleTech game would be... interesting. But do you have any idea the scope of it? To make missions for Infantry, AeroSpace, Dropship pilots, MEch pilots, Tankers, etc etc etc... This is a game of armored combat.

Mechs will be quite customizable, MW4 was horrid with their mech lab, most canon stock mechs could not even be made.

As well the date is set just before the Clans invade. Doing a MP game with out the Clans is a sure ticket to losing a lot of potential people who are here for the MechWarrior game and not the BattleTech Universe.

But go, go read my link. You will learn a lot and not make yourself look foolish and un-knowledgeable. As Adam Steiner says "Information is Ammunition" Have a good one.

TV Whispers: Hey come to the front line, big battle.
RG: Can't, I'm working on my daily quest for Draconis Faction points so they will Sell me Ferro Ore.
TV: I hate this game, I already played it.

Hello and thank you SnoDragon, Well i am guilty for not reading anything before writing my message (shame on me) but i was a litle exited about a game i was waiting for years.

If the scale is 1/1 then i only mean, not the clans yet lets play with the good old battlemech first.

And yes i want to play the game with a battlemech but not only.
Mechwarrior and battletech are 2 differents games. one on foot one in your battlemech.
after playing several missions on foot, piloting your battlemech would be so cool, kind of releif.

Too much additional work to make it with foot, even just walking around your mech bay or a solaris arena lounge sort of thing is possibly out of the picture for launch. Some point you may be able to walk a avatar around, but probably not at launch.

I hear you on being excited!! Trust me I do, I have been a rabid fanboi of this project since they were giving us puzzle pieces of the Atlas in early October :)

Redgun, I would just go boot up an old copy of Shogo: Mobile Armor Division. While it would be very cool to see, what they have already is worth my money.

Interesting, I thought once your mech(s) were dead, it went to a ghost type camera that follows the action.

would it be that difficult to add a pair of legs and a rifle to that view?

Just for the record, I am Pro-Metal (and therefore Anti-Meat).

Nope but this is extactly the game i want, sorry for forgeting the aerospaces, Dropships. :)

If i can remove the AC20, SRM and medium lasers of a Victor to have 3 PPC i am clearly not interested by this game.

Sad, i have played with the board game for the first time in 1985 so i am expecting more than a planetside2 like game.
Battletech world is one of the richest in the RPG world, having only the battlemech is a litle frustrating.

Go try MWLL

http://www.mechlivinglegends.net/

It does require you to buy Crysis Wars which can be 20 dollars reg, but on sale often enough.

It has Tanks, BA, ASF and Mechs and no customization at the time.

You are playing a MechWarrior.

MechWarriors pilot BattleMechs.

They do not partake in infantry battles.
They do not fly Aerospace fighters.
They do not wear BattleArmor (Elementals for you clanners).

Please please PLEASE stop the complaining and crying for "We want table top on-line!!". This is MechWarrior.

Having a massive scale like the table top where you could choose to be an aerofighter, elemental, infantry for whichever house/clan/merc you wanted would be great, but would also be a MASSIVE undertaking.

That would be sort of like handing a rifle to a trained F-18 pilot and telling him to charge a hill. Pretty huge waste of military resources and training. While not impossible, highly unlikely. It would be fine to have a little avatar and a way to run around and interact with the community, though, I'll grant you that. A way to kill time between battles might help some folks to immerse into the Battletech universe.

You want an RPG, not a MechWarrior game.

That's fine. I'd love one too, because Crescent Hawks Inception (the first BattleTech CRPG) was extremely neat and set the ground work for showing how a BattleTech RPG could be pretty awesome. Yes, you could even run around on foot if you wanted.

That said, that's not MWO at all nor should it be. It's another game genre entirely and it's something that would, in fact, be cool to see down the line. While MWO is an MMO, it is not an MMORPG. It's an MMOSIM; kind of like Planetside is an MMOFPS. MMOs, while traditionally RPGs, are not locked into it.

Anyway, yeah, if you're not here for what amounts to MechWarrior 5 you might have stumbled into the wrong game, but hopefully you'll give it a shot anyway.

MWLL did do a good job of integrating Aerospace and stuff, but I was never crazy about how Battle Armor popped out of 'mechs. It was a black mark that I preferred playing 1-life battles without worrying about.

That said, again, what he's talking about is more of a BattleTech RPG, than a MechWarrior game (confusing since MechWarrior was the title of the RPG for BattleTech in the P&P world). These things aren't actually out of line in that environment; in CSI, you'd want to visit towns and starports and such, and in those instances you'd get into fights without your 'mech and have to defend yourself with personal weapons and armor - the same goes for allies of yours that might be lacking 'mechs or simply aren't MechWarriors.

So yeah, there's room and a reason for a MechWarrior to be shooting at someone with a rifle, but it's not important to this kind of game. That said, letting players climb out of their 'mechs with a pistol (completely a non-threat except to other pilots) would be amusing, if pointless and likely not worth adding. It's funny in the board game.

EDIT: I would not be opposed to MWO releasing an expansion down the line that incorporates aerospace, VTOLs, tanks, or Battle Armor in either a PC or NPC fashion. I'm quite in favor of combined arms, but obviously the biggest draw and first priority should doubtlessly be the 'mechs.
